Horrible place to work any type of advancement is only good if you’re a close friend of the management, filled with nepotism, they’ll advance someone with 15 years less seniority if they think that employee would make a good puppet..... stay away from the micro managed dumpster fire!Mandated to work 6 days a week even going over the. 14 hrs driving max

InLand Pipe NW Calgary treated me well

I started as a temp worker, did lots of labour work, mainly cleaning up. Showed up to work everyday. Eventually after a month they saw potential in me and asked if I can pass a drug test. Unfortunately I didn't pass the lung test and had to wait 5 more months to get tested again. Finally, I passed and started getting paid decent money. Coworkers were great. I wasn’t getting micro managed. Foreman says one thing and you do it right the first time. Eventually I had to go back to school to pursue Heavy Duty Tech.

Great enviroment

Great place to work. Management does a great job in communicating the business plan to employees and there are lot of perks.Great people, good and safe environment and flexibility.

Home every day

Local work. Home every day. Union, fair pay, but could be better for the work. Hours vary. Hardest part of the job can be the customers. Trucks not always repaired right away.

They treat their employees horribly Constant harassment always trying to put the liability and playing on their employees. They hate their employees they treat us like dog meat

Very busy work environment its tough to keep up. most of the clients were ESL so there was a tough language barrier sometimes but its easy to get used to.

Worst job I’ve ever had in 32 years as a millwright

THE WORST, 2 millwrights quit in 1 day just recently, I quit myself a month before. Most dishonest bunch of clowns I’ve ever worked for, inexperienced kids that call themselves millwrights apparently in charge, it’s comical, STAY AWAY if your a competent millwright, toxic atmosphere fueled by managements incompetence and hostile attitude towards REAL MILLWRIGHTS not wannabes

Drive them hard and put them away wet!

Very Large company, with buffoons in management positions. Safety first, as long as it doesn't affect production or doesn't inconvenience large clients! Foolish safety rules that are unnecessary and counter productive! They will overload a truck without consideration for the safety of others on the road with a trucks' braking system that overloaded and unsafe! Call ins and start times change everyday and are determined by seniority. Favouritism is rampant and supersedes seniority when it is time to go home! Never sure when quitting time is. This makes having any type of family life after work, very difficult. Management runs around putting out fires, instead of preventing problems before they become problems. Very large corporation, therefore the brain trust at the top of the pyramid (Heidelburg Cement) has no personal contact with the management team. Company management just protect the job they have as best they can. They are not in it together, management within this division is at odds with one and other! The general manager is an accountant and runs the company through the eyes of a cold number cruncher. Equipment is generally bandaid repaired and generally on the boarder line of being unsafe. Drivers are under staffed and over worked in many cases! Every end of year the management has no idea of a forecast for the winter months and therefore they can't accurately predict staff requirements (How many drivers are required through the winter months). Drivers are therefore unsure what employment, if any, will be available during the winter months and cannot arrange for meaningful -

Bunch of old workers worried about teaching anybody because they don't want to lose their job to a younger guy.

Cheap company considering the size of the company. Lazy workers who are so used to being babied by the union that they play it to their advantage. Under paid and under appreciated. Very dirty lunch room.

stay away

they don't promote from within, they always go with outside hires. Only allow for 40 hours a week 4 days a week, no overtime. everything is a secret from management repairs on equipment don't get done on time or properly using old equipment and putting bandaids on them so they save money its a revolving door here, people quit just as fast as they hire them

Mangment is terrible

This place is worst place to work Mangment micro manages to the point where even if breathe the wrong way you will get fired. The co workers were great would teach new things long hours pay was good but not for worth the stress of knowing you could be fired at any second for the littles thing and management would just make up lies just to get you out of there. It’s just revolving door so have back up plan

Ocean plant operator 16 years

Not a long term career or recommended, mixing at one of the busiest plants in North America developed medical issues and any or all claims were denied to protect face of the organization. Not recommended quit if you develop any medical issues. My reporting supervisor told me if you don't like it quit when a safety concern was brought to attention

Great Learning and benefits, but plan your exit from day 1

Culture: If you want to learn, excellent place. It is a workplace that reward the eager learner and the fresh worker. Salary is very competitive, benefits and pension plan are good compared to industry. If you are lucky to the spotted by one of the managers in a positive way, you are in, but you must plan your exit or make a plan to move among other divisions to learn the industry. The more you shine, the list of enemies in management that will block you as the vision for development was not clear during my time. Always suggest your ideas, but be prepare to be stabbed by your own supervisor or even your manager, know your place and look down. Supervisors will try to shine by claiming credit and eliminating those that bring change (internal competitor).Young management team, but they lack the emotional maturity needed to interact with labor force, comes clear on quality issues as they tend to blame everyone rather than to become accountable, because the moment you show accountability you sign your termination package. Rumors are prevalent in the work culture, again part of the maturity level of supervisors. Typical day/ work week: Spring/ Summer are long work days, long weekends are short and stress level is high among supervisors, it is a seasonal industry so save your money during the season. Expectation is that you are there to work hard during those months. Equipment usually gets a big tune up at the beginning of Spring but by beginning of summer preventive maintenance is history and becomes a reactive environment and that usually is stressful to everyone, but as long -

Horrible politics and work/life balance

Two-faced safety enforcement and double standards of behavioural expectations; Management picks and chooses what to enforce and how heavy handed to be, yet completely ignores other major safety violations and refuses to act on feedback concerning said issues. Double standards of behavioral expectations - some can get away with downright rude, offensive self-righteous attitudes without any fear of repercussion, yet others are held to be some kind of golden child of the organization while dealing with all of the other obnoxious garbage and should one choose to call out the ridiculous behavior repercussions will certainly occur. Hypocrisy at its best. Management hates drivers, and the union hates the organisation. The politics are astoundingly bad- bullying, no communication and attempts to grind employees down to break morale and the union- it doesn't get much worse than this folks, it really doesn't. Collect your paycheque, ignore all of the horrible politics and poor behaviour and get out as soon as you can. Work/life balance is very poor. No idea of when start/finish times will be so it is impossible to plan ahead outside of work for personal endeavors. Time off works on seniority and "favourites". Winter season is a 50/50 gamble for layoffs or taking a leave of absence to seek other employment. The rules and deadlines change every year forcing decisions to be made sooner and difficulty securing employment before the seasonal switch occurs. Oh, and did I mention management had the audacity to fire an employee who was deceased for a week? The guy worked for the organisation -

Currently Employed here

Currently employed (20 years BC ready mix employee.) Leigh pushes safety; when push comes to shove, safety will take a back seat over money. If you have any medical issues, this is not the company for you. Lehigh will go out of their way to release you of your duties or even prevent you from returning to work in the event of a medical incident. Area managers will overly use surveillance and use entrapment techniques on their employees. As for work schedule, we are on call employees, senior employees will know the start time for the following day the night before. All employees, regardless of seniority, never know what time they will be off! If you like attending functions for your kids or the ability to attend planned events after work, this is not the job for you. We are paid well with decent benefits; it does take a couple of years to start making a decent wage. That being said, the first 2 years are very difficult financially for new hires. The managers will tell 'false truths.' This job would be great if it wasn't for lack of work life balance and the petty games our managers initiate.

Not very good

Worked in Calgary for a long time.... seen many people come and go ...very poor morale mainly caused by inexperienced managers who think they are so superior then anybody else ... operation pretty much runs it self because there are still some very loyal and very hard working employees... and if you are a driver expect to be treated like a machine...when it is busy ( like most of the time) ... don’t even think about stopping for a break or even to use the bathroom...it’s go-go-go all the time..preaching safety all the time unless it’s a (special customer) .. and they just turn there backs or ignore any concerns! No reconition for a job well done or for being safe with no incedents
