Toxic Winnipeg Office

Your job is never as it is described in the interview. The interviewer was more worried about bashing previous employees. Training is non existant, there is no local support. HR is outsource to Columbia. For the most part, the workers in the plants are friendly and a joy to work with, but the the office staff will cut your throat before you even get settled. Management is for the most part oblivious and being mislead by the Operation.

Pros

plant workers are friendly and supportive

Cons

No work life balnce

Very poor management and overall working environment if you want a work life balance

Not a good company to work for. Management will do all they can to not help. Will say they are a safety driven business. But want you to work pass you HOS on a regular basis. Dispatch will pressure you as well, which they are directed by management. It is a union environment that will take your money but will not assist you if mangement tried to push you out if you do not listen to them when you voice your right about unsafe working condition

Not in it for the Long Term

Poor lines of communication between departments, lack of accountability always looking for someone to take the blame, promotes nepotism, you’ll move up if you’re part of the boys club, related to the boss or look the part. Lacks diversity, fosters the bottom line, hires cheap labour, not great if you want a long term career, management will bully and ridicule you and lacks professionalism

Executive management is a joke

Some great people the blue collar workers. Communication sucks in regards to proper protocol. Training is a joke and most upper management are clueless living in a fantasy world. It’s not what you know. No matter what or how you kill yourself to get the job done, they want more. Perfection without proper training and support.

Production Worker

Heavy work for fair pay , I enjoy the aspect of knowing I’m paid fairly for the hours I labor. They also provide benefits and pension which is very nice

Yes you have to enjoy what you are doing

If you do not enjoy what you are doing your day will be a rough time because everything is always changing from job to job different sites all basically have the same rules and regulations but some are not always followed so you have to bring your own rules of safety into play at every job site big or small

Pros

Sometimes management is always doing something

Cons

It's construction it's always long hours

It was good wages, good benefits and good place to work.

The typical work day is seven days a week and 24 hrs a day. It has day/night shifts. We learned alot of different things from the Job, such as how to clean the floor, clean the machine, appying oil, tressing the cable, set up the machine and measuring the slab. It Managed by Manager and the workplace culture is Cross cultural. The hardest part of the Job is when we are sort of worker and the most enjoyable part of the Job is when every body work faithfully on each duty.

Pros

we have to bring our lunch.

Cons

Generally, 10 hrs aday.

Normal working enviornment

The most good thing is that they care for people's safety. The most good thing of the job is the challenge & the most hard thing is the extra routine to get things done.

Good people to work with

Daily I would enter payroll hours upload and approve them. I would also make PO's, make and generate invoices. Check on vendor payments.

Fun,Healthy and safe

We work as a team or crew, each of us have different jobs that needs to be done in a day if we can. We all work together to get the job done. I learned a lot from Lafarge for example using cranes, finishing concrete, using lots of tools that i never use before. Other than that before everyone starts working you need to fill up Field Level Risk Assessment ( FLRA ) which identify your tools or PPE or Personal Protective Equipment that you will need to use for your task or job on that day always safety first. Management is good we get our 8hrs or more each day and they give us lots of free stuff like sweaters, t-shirt ,fun activities and we get 2 weeks paid vacation base on seniority you can get more in a year. Hardest part of the job is the Layoff, when theres no job and order. The most enjoyable part was the activities they put in anyone in lafarge can join and your family.

Pros

Rushing the job

Cons

Layoff

Everyday work at Lafarge

Exciting place to work, Could be very busy or very slow due to weather. Very nice place to work, like anywhere there are changes to meet each day. Management is pretty understanding with any personal commitments (family, appointments and sports activities) Transportation (trucks) break downs. Especially when were very busy. The increased stress of truck demand and the inability to supply more trucks, makes for a long day Family feel, You feel like part of the family and everyone will pitch in to help in any way

Pros

Understanding of everyday issues (good or bad)

Cons

Some cases can be to ridged

Great place to work

I only worked for the summer, but I always felt welcomed by the employees there. I was given multiple opportunities to participate, and I was always given the training necessary.
