Very nice people, fun hard working culture, fair pay; just wish the work was steady and permanent. would love to stay if the job contracts were plentiful.

The worst company that I have had the misfortune of working for

Lafarge is generally considered to be a world leader in construction right?? Well they might be in other markets but in Saskatoon they are disorganized, dishonest, and do not value their employees contributions, any employee is expendable, totally profit driven, with a profit at all cost attitude. Lafarge will portray that safety is their number 1 value, this is total lip service, they are only concerned with profit. Any construction company out there is better to work for than this place, passing on applying here in Saskatoon is a great decision, you won’t be disappointed.

Pros

I can’t think of any!

Cons

Long hours, zero recognition, corrupt upper management.

Great pension Great union members

I put in 5 years climbing the ranks of the union. After five years i started to get tired of the overtime. When I started to refuse overtime or ridiculous hours i was threatened with continual write ups and suspensions that were really nothing. The company has a watchdog system so they can watch you and the trucks and if you go even a single km over a speed limit set by the company for even a few seconds once or twice a month they will come after you with reprimands unless like a good dog you do as they say when they say how they say.

Have a backup plan.

When it's busy, it's great, the minute that changes and they don't need you, your nothing to them. Little to no room for advancement. Have concerns (like making enough hours to survive), all you get is "my hands are tied, there's nothing I can do to help you" type anwers.

Good place to work.

Demanding/ fulfilling work. Long hours. decent pay. good benefits. Respecful management. The only thing i would say i dislike about this company is how seasonal the work is.

Fun work environment

Lafarge was supportive in providing training in all areas possible and promoted advanced learning in areas where improvement could be made.

you will regret working at the saskatoon terminal

In the 5 years there has been 5 different managers not one of them staying longer than two years. It a lose lose situation. The last manager there relocated from Ontario and had 31 years with the company and they didn't even acknowledge him when he resigned not even a phone good luck in the future just a hang up of the phone. There is lots of issues with the equipment and limited budget to do anything your constantly having to stay late and fix the cyclonaire as rail demerge piles up. On average i would say the you would need to put in 10 to 12 hours to accomplish the office work and outside work that they expect from the manager. It is very poorly managed from the top and is currently losing all its experienced employees cause of that. This is first hand but if someone is up for challlenge this is a real challenge.

Pros

average salary, great salesman

Cons

long hours, constant reshuffling of schedule, lots of maintenance
