Good job, good people, results focused
Finance Analyst (Former Employee) –  Calgary, AB29 July 2019
It's a good organization but too focused on short term results. More focus on long term planning and vision is required for success. Lack of attention on people development.

Lafarge will use you and throw you away
Maintenance Supervisor (Former Employee) –  Exshaw, AB5 March 2019
Top Management has no backbone with the hourly union.
Lafarge puts huge expectations on you as a supervisor but then does not back you up.
The stress levels are not worth your health.

Terrible Organization
Administrative Support (Former Employee) –  Vancouver, BC25 January 2019
Most disorganized company I have ever worked for. No communication, false promises, and zero managerial support. Don't expect anyone to have your back, you're on your own. Most of the employees are just thrown into a position and expected to figure it out, don't expect training or ongoing support after any "training" is provided, which is just the most convoluted data thrown on a screen in front of you that you're expected to absorb immediately. Forget being a great employee and having a work ethic, if you're not in with the right people, don't expect a future with this company or any room for advancement or performance based remuneration ever.
Pros
Decent benefits, free food all the time
Cons
Highschool atmosphere, everyone is clueless

Company was great. Site management was not enjoyable. Steady work, great drivers to work with. Pay was fair. Work conditions were good. I wish I could have worked for them longer.

Franceschini brothers
Heavy equipment operator (Former Employee) –  Toronto, ON16 August 2018
If you're working at franceschini depot, the people are amazing.

Management however is a monkey show. Benefits are laughable for such a huge company.

Supervisors will have you doing a million different jobs that are not discussed at the beginning of your employment but you have to do them anyways.

Pay is horrendous. Unfair and just ridiculous. Really low pay for such a huge company
Pros
Great working hours
Cons
No over time, no team work, little pay

Terminal Manager (Former Employee) –  Edmonton, AB17 May 2018
Lafarge is a very large organization with many employees in many places throughout the world. If you work in management it is not good enough to do your job as required. You can also be expected to be micro managed and if you don't comply then you will be fired.
Pros
Benefits were good
Cons
Micro management is very prevalent

Union company, I was a ready mix driver, equipment you run is in poor shape +30 weather no air in the cab lots of issues with the trucks. you have to be a senior guy to get a newer truck, on call all the time never know when you work until the evening before and have no idea when you get off at the end of the day. Pay and benefits are good

When its busy there is opportunity for a lot of overtime but the work is not year round which causes the employees lower on the seniority list to look elsewhere for winter work

good springboard
Coordinator (Former Employee) –  Calgary, AB17 September 2017
Lafarge is very divisional. Construction is tough and fast pace. Management is young and progressive. There is talk of work/ life balance but corporate budgetary constraints still result in pushing the staff to the limits. This could easily be solved with more help. Coworkers and field staff are great and there is a lot of comroadery. There is a changing of the guard from old-school construction mentality to the new school mentality. The benefits are top notch and there is lots of room for advancement. It is extremely corporate and as a result, good luck working through IT issues.
