Overall, I had a great experience at KPMG as I learned alot over three years. It felt like I had spent six years in industry in a condensed sitting. Would recommend for new grads.
Pros
Similar aged peers
Cons
Long hours

Horrible people: no one takes responsibility for their own work and when they roll off an engagement expect others to finish up their mess, most managers are too busy to answer question, let alone respond to a simple email/skype message, a lot of favoritism as sucking up to managers/partners is part of the job

Long hours: Engagement that booked for 1 week tends to take 2-3 x the time to finish

Low Pay: salaries are ridicously low, especially factoring in the hours

Employees are dispensable, During April 2020, KPMG laid off hundreds of employees across Canada for all service lines in such a difficult time and acted nothing has happened.

As someone who has worked at another Big 4 firm, KPMG was amazing. This was such a great experience, in particular in the Enterprise Audit group. I would highly recommend joining the firm when starting out from university.

The CPA designation can be obtained anywhere now. It is about time the big 4 pay a competitive salary. Can get easily 35% increase in salary going to industry.

Typical big four audit firm - basically thrown into the fire from day one but excellent coaching and focus on getting exams cleared on time and for personal growth

A very good place to start your accounting career - there are continual opportunities to learn and grow, and several directions to take your career path on going forward. There are many people offering to mentor and help your growth and learning on the way as well, and continual ways to improve your skill set and knowledge base.
Pros
Great benefits, many opportunities to learn
Cons
Very long hours for a large part of the year due to the nature of the industry

I enjoyed working for KPMG for eight years. Good benefit package and a recognized brand name. Detailed training programs and friendly atmosphere. If out of town traveling could be reduced, it would have been an ideal job.
Pros
Good Training
Cons
Out of town travelling

fun staff to work with and lots to learn from in terms of client variety. Expect to work long hours for very little pay. Can be exhausting that managers all want different things

Being an associate at KPMG is mostly comprised of travelling to client sites and performing audit procedures with client management. The Burnaby practice is focused on privately-traded enterprise clients.

The learning curve can be steep to begin with, but is overall quite easy to adapt to once you get your feet wet a few months in.

Partners and other management staff are great, being extremely supportive of your career aspirations, given that they understand it is not the average associate's goals to stay in public practice. Similarly, the co-workers are great as they are by-far some of the smartest people I've worked with and there's an abundance to learn from them, in addition to being great people to hang out with after work.

I would say the hardest part of the job is trying to fit your life into the work schedule, as while the firm tries its best to provide some balance, the nature of the business (client-driven deadlines) often does not allow for this. Also, the performance rating system can often seem rather subjective and political rather than being based on objective merit.

The best part of the job is definitely the people you work with, as even though work can be mundane and long, going through it with intelligent, motivated, and likeable colleagues makes it really worth it.
Pros
High caliber of co-workers; opportunities for advancement; great learning
Cons
Long hours; often administrative tasks; performance rating system

Great place to learn and then move on. Benefits are competitive and lots of time off in the summer. Work-life is better than competitors (the other big 4) but still not competitive with industry. Great place to make a career if you like your field.

Working at a big four involves incredibly hard work, with the opportunity to obtain the CA designation with the best resources. The employees are very type-A and will exploit employees for personal gain
