Had a great experience with Kiewit ran my rig at ipl

Indeed featured review

The most useful review selected by Indeed
When working for Kiewit in the ipl project I had a good experience once they brought on our rigs it was no longer a job just to hold me off it was one I wanted to keep so production went up along with moral as long as they have rig work I’d definitely go back as far as by hand I would only use it as filler

Pros

It’s a big company so they typically have work

Cons

It’s a big company so your just a number as us

Productive and fun place to work.

I enjoyed the work and the people I worked with. Management was well trained to help and keep you safe. I would definitely recommend Kiewit for a career choice if your safety minded and family oriented.

Gone down hill

worked for Kiewit in 2013 and it was awesome, pay was great, shift was great and managenent was respectful and knew their stuff Now the pay is low Constantly being threatened to be written up or fired, too many white hats and safety coming up with assinine procedures that make it almost impossible to do the simplest tasks. Rrsp and pension match removed without consent

Pros

i guess its a paycheck

Cons

Low pay, poor management

Worst company I've ever worked for in my entire life

Way too many upper management, glass ego douchbags. way more than your average site. mass layoffs cuz they hired so many people to finish the project that they couldnt even keep track of staff during lay offs.alot of people didnt find out until they were at the airport, thanks kiewit "Suck It" i would work for you again but you would just be my side b***h till somethin better came along

Awesome Place

for the time i was up north, and first time out in the field it was a experience on its own. the work force along side management was awesome. Great people to work for and i would do it again! Everyday was something new, challenging, and the people you meet with the level of experience was amazing and really helped me in my trade very knowledgeable. yes you do get the management clash with the work force but that is every where else. for the amount of years i have been in the trade and seen some management clashes. Kiewit by far has very little, they know there is unseen problems that may arise and they deal with it very professionally.

kiewit has the most disturbing management

they want you to work weekends but they keep changing your hours and your pay rate every week and they are completely incapable of providing pay stubs or tools to there workers. they cant get enough iron workers to work for them so they put there carpenters and laborers through a 2 day iron worker training program. its only a mater of time before some poor person slips through the cracks of there safety system and gets hurt or dies

Safety Safety and more Safety

Keiwit doesn't care about how fast work gets completed as long as nobody gets hurt. they understand that scheduling allows for enough time to complete the job without the need for rushing

Pros

Adequate pay for equally challenging work, over time

Best job I ever had

Loved working for Kiewit in Kearl Lake. Made a huge mistake by leaving, wish i had stayed. Management, supervision, formans and engineers all top of the line people who took great pride in there work and keeping moral at its best.

Pros

the best job ever

Cons

14 days away from family across the country

Good bunch of workers for the most part

Management is unorganized, left hand doesn`t know what the right hand is doing. If better organized and managed better would be the best place i have ever worked.

Pros

Great co-workers

Cons

14 days away from family

Don't bother if you're not from Newfoundland.

Superintendants and chargehands are mostly apprentices who talked their way to the top. Completely discriminated against by company and union if you're not from Marystown. Company and union break their own collective agreement as they'd like and see fit. Constant drug and alcohol testing over the smallest safety infractions as little as stubbing your toe or even after a disagreement with a management member. The pace is beyond slow and if you're working harder than someone else your chargehand will take you off to ensure a Newfoundlander is doing the job instead. Everyday during your tool box meeting is another scare tactic about how many people they've been writing up yet fail to communicate with the employees to find remedies for the issues they're writing people up over. Safety is hit and miss and often won't leave their trailer to address concerns or issues. This company is a complete disaster and the people running the place are a pathetic excuse for former tradesmen or management. I wouldn't hire them to flip burgers. The only thing thats kept a lot of us here is the pay.

Pros

good money

Cons

everything else

good pay but no safty concern and poor managment

poor management and poor communication . if you are not local worker you will treated poorly. i worked there and got deduction for benefit on my paycheck and received nothing for it. union is a joke there if you are not from Newfoundland.

good pay

Cons

everything
