Great place, excellent culture

Great place while they had lots of construction projects but they ran out of work and laid everyone off. Such is the business of construction.........

Challenging and fast paced

High expectations but a very fun place to work with a unique pay structure as the company is employee owned. The culture is very supportive but also very fast paced and performance driven.

Poor work/life balance

Expected to always put work first and involves working long hours for low compensation when out on projects away from home. When working locally in the office the pay is fair and hours are acceptable. Good RRSP matching and benefits.

Strongly culture oriented

Kiewit is really oriented on culture and developement of their employees.Learning is integral part of Kiewit. Possibility of changing position after a certain amount of time in the current one to experience other fields.

Great company

Kiewit is a great company to work for. There is always a lot of work for them and you if you are able to relocate. I would work for the m again in a heartbeat.

Was very difficult to move to a higher position

Management positions were filled with relatively young people that did not leave much space for other people to move up. Stuck in a entry level position doing mindless tasks all day. Benefits were were good at first with rrsp but got reduced at the later part of the project. Raises we very little even with the best performing people. Company spends on district meetings and training rather than increasing their salaries.

Pushes Hard, Compensates Well

I worked with Kiewit for 8 months as a co-op student and it was great other than flying in and out. I loved the work and the location but it put strain on personal relationships. They pay well, and expect you to earn it. The safety and job culture are great and so is the possibility of career advancement.

Fun environment but you work hard

Long days structured company, almost always someone to report to and they have someone they report to etc. Fun people to work with for the most part

Fast paced and rewarding work environment

The ability to work on nearly any kind of project imaginable is incredibly rewarding. You can head to a hydro dam retrofit or a nuclear power plant, a co-gen power plant, an LRT line, or the building of a new hospital, or countless other projects. The amount you can learn is endless. The work environment is always faced paced but the quality of the people there make it very easy to forget stress and turn out incredible work. The hardest part of the job is really only trying to determine where you are going next!

Learning experiences galore

some days can get long, and not knowing where you are going after your current project can be stressful

Great company if you're willing to devote your life to work

Overall, Kiewit is an excellent employer: the company is very organized, they continuously provide on-the-job training for new and seasoned employees, the salary is competitive, the benefits are great, and there is no limit to career advancement as long as you're willing to work long and hard.

Hard Working Environment, No Life-Work Balance

If you like to work and continue to work on your days off, this is your work place. You get to work on interesting projects and your given lots of responsibility. Unfortunately when you go home, work doesn't stay at your desk. Every co-worker you work with are hard working, but I would work a minimum of 12 hours a day, but commonly worked up to 14-15 hours a day on a regular basis. Not great compensation for the higher work hours.
