Shipper/Receiver in Red Deer, AB

Really busy at times
I liked working at Kal Tire, mostly because of the staff. I was a shipper at the commercial location. Tires were heavy to stack at first but I got better and really physically strong and in better shape. I liked how I could take a smoke break literally whenever I want. You're mostly just working on your own with little supervision so I liked that aspect as well. All and all I would probably go back.

Very straining and long hours
Extremely physically demanding. Stressful workplace environment. Day starts when it's dark, ends when it's dark. Management is kind and helpful, however.

Great place to work
Kam tire is a great place to work, nice colleagues and fun. Everyone loves what they do and the customers respect us too. Flexible hours and fun team building exercises are great

Alright.
Alright place to work for other than it being seasonal, they say they’ll keep you after the season but don’t. Management is a little annoying and head boss is always on your back, they want the job done fast and don’t pay much for how fast they want it done either. Zero overtime. Also say their gonna email/call next season then they don’t.

Great Benefits and Discounts, But Limited Potential, Head Office has their heads in the sand.
Not enough words to sum up my total experience here. Worked for the company for 3 years, starting as a tire tech in the front shop, moved to service truck, then started as a mechanic apprentice. Each location had it’s perks and drawbacks. The drawbacks being unique to each location. Overall if you’re wanting to pursue a career as a mechanic, Kal Tire is not the place as they’re really only interested in basic services. You’ll never work under a valve cover ever, just bang out ball joints and brakes and alignments. Head office is lost and too busy trying to make Kal just one single entity when they don’t realize what works sales wise in one part of the country doesn’t work in a small town somewhere else.Benefits and Discounts are untouchable though. Best I ever had and would be one of the reasons I would go back.
