Manipulative management but lots of money to be made
Server/Bartender (Former Employee) –  Muskoka, ON21 January 2019
Worked there for 5 months over the summer and made a ton of money, keep in mind in August I worked over 100 hours overtime, sometimes 10-14 hours a day.

I made friends that I'll take with me for the rest of my life, and on my days off we'd go out on the lake to their cottages and enjoy Muskoka. However, this was quickly offset by the fact that the management was manipulative, took advantage of you every chance they could, and tons of favouritism. It was rare that you would get your time-off requests approved. Some people would skip work without calling in sick on multiple occasions and not face any consequences, but others would do the same once and be threatened of termination. Management only focused on negatives, and never recognized you for your accomplishments. You could be the best at your job, but to them, you're just a number! The only reason to bust your butt working long hours for them, is seeing your tip envelopes at the end of your shift. The average guest who go to the JW Marriott are high-end individuals/families who expect luxury service, and they will pay you accordingly.

The kitchen staff were so unequipped, as a server you gained strong problem solving skills, as guests were ALWAYS complaining. Food often took at least 30 minutes - 1 hour to come out at a mediocre quality at best. You can't blame them though, all three restaurants operated from the same kitchen as banquets!

I lived in staff housing with other young adults (early 20s). If you're older, I highly recommend you find a place in Port Carling or Gravenhurst. Staff housing was comparable
more... to a college dorm setting or hostel - tons of partying...and bunk beds.

If you're looking for a fun summer to make lots of money! Work here! Don't expect much either than that.

Front Desk Agent (Former Employee) –  Minett, ON30 December 2018
This resort is a great place to work. You will work hard, and a lot of hours, especially in the summer. You will work in all departments which is great experience. You will also move up quickly as the turn over is quite high given the location. Management is reasonable and cares about you. The perks of working for Marriott are pretty awesome as well.
This job is meant for energetic, positive people who are willing to work over time.
Pros
great staff, good opportunity for growth
Cons
long hours, inconsistent schedule

Good Job
Valet and Bell Person (Former Employee) –  Muskoka, ON5 December 2018
The pay is great. The hotel is understaffed as a result of the location and seasonal work. It is tough to live up to other resorts where they are able to pay employees less.

Sous Chef (Former Employee) –  Minett, ON6 July 2018
not sure why but is this not the 3rd or 4th different exec sous in the last 18 months? As a more than qualified applicant I would never go out to Minett until something changed out there

Barista (Former Employee) –  Muskoka, ON30 December 2016
Overwork employees, mix with hour sheets, and schedule employees for double shifts (10+ hours) without informing before-hand. Peers were awesome to work with and made the experience much better, however management had many issues that would trickle down to the employees.
