Fast work environment will keep you busy

Indeed featured review

The most useful review selected by Indeed
Review is for the weld side. You load parts onto jigs to be welded by robots, usually 2 jigs per person so you are constantly walking between the 2. Expect some muscle soreness at first, potentially joint issues after a while.Rotating days and afternoons with lots of potential for overtime if you are looking for it. There is also a fair amount of mandatory overtime including 8 hour Saturdays.Pay is ok and raises come frequently at the beginning but its not quite enough to offset the price of homes/ apartments in the area if you are planning on moving for this job.Benefits are also great and there are 2 weeks of paid shutdown every year.Team leaders seem kind of useless to be honest and you frequently see them taking half hour breaks and hour long lunches but if you take too long you'll hear about it.

Pros

keeps you busy, lots of overtime

Cons

early morning and late afternoons makes the changeover hard

good team environment

good team environment, however the constant staff turnover means you won't establish many lasting relationshipsbecause staff turnover is so high they have become very proficient at training

Pros

good team environment

Cons

minimum breaks

Workplace that only cares about production numbers and nothing else.

Working is average you're expected to be putting parts in a bin for half your shift and the other half doing quality control. Most enjoyable part of the job that either makes or breaks if your staying is the company of your crew you work with. The turnover rate for the company is massive as I've seen well over 75+ associates quit during my time working on my shift alone. --------- My main issue with the company is the fact no one actually cares enough to do their job properly/lack the proper training to know the necessary information for the role The training provided is abysmal due to the turnover being so high. Good example is the fact year after year I've seen about ~5 people quit in a crew of 7 before the start of next year. Needs much better management and actual training for associates to learn how to be safe and do their jobs properly and not just "figure it out yourself but get blamed if you mess it up" type attitude the company has. P.S; Since you start at the bottom be prepared to get blamed for essentially everything that goes wrong even if its another persons responsibility to be checking quality. *English is not first language sorry for any typos

Pros

The people you meet while working there.

Cons

Bad management, no training, constant blame-game tactics and no real teamwork between shifts.

Good money but mostly poor in other areas

- their training (in my weld zone so far away from cafeteria) is very bad and they mislead you into thinking you are working fast-enough on a difficult line for a full month and suddenly they accost you for wasting time which is demeaning and possibly humiliating - the money here is good (overtime after 40.00 net hours in a week) - for 2 weeks the daily shifts were 8.0 hours (heaven) and 2 breaks were fully paid and much longer than 10 minutes but then ... they did the sudden-switcheroo (I mean a new shift-system not the biweekly rotation) on everyone and lunch break became unpaid and required shift extended to 9.5 hours which is not ok - the location is better than Milton except for 1 very dangerous 80 km/h limit t-intersection at Side Road 4 and Wellington Rd. 7, just a few minutes south of JEC, so in this spot drive smart and safe - neither at interview nor orientation day did they mention in any form that my welding zone (your luck determines which zone they choose for you and you must work in) requires working nearly 10 (9.5) hours on afternoon shifts for 2 weeks and the multiple 10 minute breaks in shift are too short and seem abusive to workers - they will say that they need to run that long (shift time and production speed and very short 10 minute breaks) because the customer runs that long and fast - look out for yourself - I am much older than 17 and I have seen other employers offer 2 paid 15 minute breaks (plus the 30 minute lunch break) for a normal 8.5 hour shift so I just don't see a good reason as to why JEC takes away at least 10-12 minutes of everyone's -

Pros

Starting pay is very reasonable (not bad) and overtime is plentiful

Cons

bad training and some team leaders hinder your performance as a new employee and otherwise

Horrible

No respect Management are all close friends. They are not organized. Hr is friendly but they don’t do nothing or answer there phones even know there sitting by there phone. Team leaders yell and scream at you and don’t get in any sort of trouble. Management covers up for team leaders so they don’t get in trouble for swearing at people

Pros

Nothing

Cons

Clean bright place

I would like to start off saying that I would give JEC a 5 star rating if I was still there but one thing for sure is they will get rid of you for no real reason seeing as they DO NOT give you a chance to explain what happened on the floor if there is an issue. They will make you confess what you did but not find out why. The techs are very dirty they will hold the safety gates back and tell you you have to go in and change tips on a robot but he never locked out And holding 2 safety gates behind his back taking away ALL SAETY devices awsy. Its very high overturn, if they dont quit they'lll get fired. Over all a good place, I do miss it there.

If you want to know what slavery feels like

You show up and garb up on your own time, 10 minute breaks include 6 minutes of walking to your work location. Culture is strict and cruel and all about production. I destroyed my body working here and when I tried to use PPE it was frowned upon because it costs them money.

Pros

free sugary treats during summer

Cons

slavery

Long hours, foolish management

If you're looking for a company where you'll be subjected to backbreaking labor while you're verbally abused for a pittance, this is your place. Anybody looking to be treated like a human being and not a cog in the machine need not apply here. Additionally incredibly unsafe.

Good, not a long term place

The people are good, but it's hard work. Typical day is fast paced, good employee benefits and employee events. It's worth working here, blah blah blah.

Good Pay for Hard Work

It is an OK place to work if you are looking for good money, but able to handle lots of overtime (some mandatory Saturdays), and hard work (production associates are running around all day, it can get hot on the floor). There is a big issue with "cliques", where the "originals" aka people that have worked there for years get preferential treatment from management. If you have a family be ready for shift changes (days/aft) every 2 weeks, and most Saturdays after you return to day shift is a mandatory overtime day. There is also an issue with nepotism here. If you get a Team Leader with something against you it will become not a very fun place to work, and you'll leave. If you need the money and benefits, give it a try!

Good pay, fast and heavy work, excelleng team leaders, kind people

A very professional company to start your career and you can advance your career through their internal job posting. Roona and Nirubba, they are excellent, very professional, very kind. Company has a lot of diversity and they dont discriminate against anyone. Some lines are fast and heavy and are repititive which may put strain on your muscle.

At Least You Get Free Popsicles

I read some of these reviews and not sure we are talking about the same place... JEC is a horrible place to work. They don't care about you, you are just a number and easily replaceable. If you get hurt they try to deny responsibility. Production numbers are ALL THAT MATTERS!! There is very little, if any training, and you better be prepared to get yelled at regularly for doing/not doing things you were never told. Management/Team Leads are horrific and have no problem publicly humiliating you in front of your team. You do get free popsicles though, so that's something

Some of the managers (team leaders) are rude and have a massive chip on their shoulders.

Depending on what area you are in will be a total different challenge. The stamping area is very hard on your hands and back. Weld area and s very fast pace and has constant learning curve. Parts are razor sharp and can cut through your protection gloves. They love to shame you when you make an mistake. And they make you stay a temp well after your probation period. It’s a high turn over place due to attitude problems from the senior staff. No job security. They tell you if you have any problems just talk to them, but if they feel your rocking the boat they show you the door. Just do your job and don’t talk to anyone since there are too many trouble makers that cause drama. If you need a temporary job, then here will be a small fix

Pros

Always busy, time flies

Cons

Team leaders have attitude problems

After 15 years it was very hard to leave JEC. If you put in the effort you can be very successful here. There is plenty of opportunity to learn and grow

Pros

Great Benefits, RRSP Matching, Family Events, Employee Appreciation BBQ's, Paid Shutdowns

Cons

Overtime requirements to meet production demands can be overwhelming.
