Home and community care
Community Support Worker (Current Employee) - Port McNeill, BC - 11 September 2023
Working as a home and community health care worker has its challenges. You work alone under the supervision of a LPN. Communication is a daily challenge as are schedules. This is a result of people who have never worked this job scheduling you.
Pros
None

scheduling changes, non flexible work schedule, wear and tear on your personal vehicle

Healthcare Support Worker (Former Employee) - Duncan, BC - 2 August 2022
Fast paced and good wage, management is somewhat poor. There are over 100 employees and most are very unhappy with an attitude. The position is unionized which has its pros and cons.

Community Support Worker (Current Employee) - Parksville, BC - 30 June 2020
It takes connections in IH to get a job there or to move up. Their interview check list is demeaning and usually irrelevant . I have seen so many incredible practitioners not get jobs because they didn’t use the right language (literally the right word) during an interview. Management positions are often held by professionals from other disciplines that have no relevance to the team they are leading my first week there I was put in my most challenging ethical dilemmas of my career only to find out that the staff, team lead and managers were aware and were covering it up
Pros
Flexible, decent pay, lots of work, promote education/training
Cons
Lateral violence, unqualified management, disorganized
