Great team, fast-paced work, emotionally hard.
I worked with a great team and management was fair and friendly.
Fast-paced and can be emotionally hard given the nature of the job.

I decided to change career paths as I did not want a desk job.

I am now retired but worked at IRB 23 years. Love knowing my work may make a difference in peoples' lives. (Refugees and Immigrants in particular).
A typical day at work: Most recent job:
Being advised of certain reports that are needed for a given division of the IRB, I may request to create a dataset to be able to create reports using specific information from the database (called NOVA).

Once the dataset is ready, I test the dataset to ensure that it works as defined in the request. Once it is operational, I prepare the dataset operational user guide that describes exactly what the intent is of each field and how the user can use it. Once finalized, I then record all this information in a Wiki page for future use by the affected users and our group.

What I learned: During my carreer, I have gained an excellent understanding of the Immigration and Refugee Board; of general operations of tribunals, of data entry and monitoring, and documentation writing, in both official languages,
Pros
flexible hours, excellent co-workers, interesting work, part-time

An overview
This is a vibrant work place where, among my colleagues, I came to know of more languages than I had ever thought existed. Interpreting the contexts of the refugee rooms, n the immigration rooms and the detention review rooms is meaningful work that is challenging and rewarding.
Pros
Flexible schedules
Cons
Job insecurity
