IKEA Employee Review

Typically an easygoing workplace but with low pay

Fairly low starting pay depending on department, ($15.50 as of Sept 2022) given the amount of work expected of especially compared to other departments and companies. The manager and team lead in my department are awesome, but I’m not too sure about the leadership in other departments and higher up in the company. The one particularly notable benefit is a yearly bonus (OIB), which is a % of your monthly pay (86-125%) depending on the sales figures of your store/dept for that year, however this is fairly overshadowed by low starting pay and incredibly little raises. Upon asking coworkers this seems to be something they have an issue with themselves.

Pros

Cheap sizeable lunch ($4), yearly bonus, okay workload depending on department

Cons

Low pay/raises, poor upper management, probably the worst customers to deal with in the city

Great place to learn valuable warehouse skill but not a long term place to work

Since I started working at ikea the workload was ever increasing and the pay was not. Starting off as a picker you are put in a position day in day out to complete a nearly impossible task of picking orders that management knows they do not have the staff for.

Pros

Good coworkers

Cons

Does not follow ikeas values only profits

Not great for a career

If you can get hired externally as a manager, great. If you're going to attempt to work your way up, prepare yourself for a decade of work, low pay, and bizarre curve balls at every attempt to get ahead. A select team of leaders who are never on the sales floor make all the decisions for the store, so expect so decisions that makes no practical sense. The co-workers will make this job enjoyable, but get ready for pizza parties not a livable wage.
