For me it was a good career but felt abandoned and disappointed disappointed in the end.
Financial Planning Advisor (Former Employee) - Atlantic provinces. - 18 May 2022
Indeed featured review
The most useful review selected by IndeedIn the beginning it was a very fun filled career with a culture of caring for each other and our clients. As the company grew the culture of caring slipped and is at a very low level today. The environment now is one that is more of a survival philosophy.

Very friendly atmosphere
Receptionist/Key Holder – Renaissance (Former Employee) - Chatham-Kent, ON - 16 August 2022
Found it to be very professional and very friendly office culture. Respectful. The job was very interactive with other staff. You are not overtaxed and hours are regular every day the same, no weekends expected. I really enjoyed working for them.

Consultant (Former Employee) - Abbotsford, BC - 16 August 2022
A management heavy model that pays 1/2 the industry average. A very small investment and insurance offering when the industry is moving the opposite.

Conseiller (Former Employee) - Québec City, QC - 22 July 2022
Environnement de travail stressant et chaotique , aucun intérêt pour le développement professionnel et l’épanouissement des nouveaux employés. De plus, environnement de travail malsain
Pros
Payant pour les conseillers déjà établis venant d’ailleurs
Cons
Tout le reste

Great place to work if you don't need an income.
Consultant (Former Employee) - Atlantic, NS - 25 May 2022
Negative paycheques. Good training Expensive costs just to go to work. Pay is below average. One is more of an employee than an independent contractor. It is not a good contract

Heavy workload
Coordinator (Current Employee) - Winnipeg, MB - 19 May 2022
Employees at every job grade have too much to do and not enough time to do it. Taking vacation is stressful because your work has to wait until you get back as there isn’t enough staff to cross train and handle things in someone’s absence.
Pros
Good corporate community programs and investment
Cons
Heavy workloads, mediocre pay

An easy way to lose money
Consultant (Former Employee) - Peterborough, ON - 15 May 2022
They say they’ll give you clients when recruiting you - but when you start, they pester you to recruit all your friends and family as clients . . . you’re on your own. The only way to succeed is to try and stick with it for five years - then buy someone else’s clients.
Pros
Free training
Cons
You spend more money than you earn

Nice people
Associate (Current Employee) - Brampton, ON - 21 March 2022
You can learn about many areas of financial planning. The most enjoyable time is to serve the client and see they are achieving their financial goals.
Pros
Make your own schedule
Cons
No advance unless consultant

Bring assets and it will be brilliant
Consultant (Former Employee) - Halifax, NS - 18 March 2022
No arguing that if you have a good book of clients this is a great place to be. If I were at a bank, I would look seriously at moving my book to this firm so you can do the full job for your client. Very professional, good software and excellent specialist support. If you believe in holistic financial planning, this is probably one of the best firms in Canada. Managers, at a local level anyway, are generally appalling. They will make huge promises that bear no resemblance to the reality when you are in the door.
Pros
systems, specialists, capabilities of the firm
Cons
management is appalling

Overall a decent company
Field Support, Region Office (Current Employee) - Toronto, ON - 26 November 2021
This company has treated me well for the most part. Great medical/dental benefits with a perk of additional $$ towards your health spending account (I've never had a company treat me so well insurance wise). You learn a lot, you're challenged, and you're supported by your team and your manager. The downside I would say is that HR does what management says and they do not keep your comments private. So if you have an issue, expect them to give you away and air your dirty laundry.
Pros
insurance (medical/dental) + (health spending account)
Cons
HR service could be better, and upper management should be more accepting of feedback

The work isn't overly difficult, but the advisors are
Executive Assistant (Former Employee) - Ontario, Canada - 22 June 2021
When you work under the IG Wealth Management umbrella, you can expect that the work isn't challenging, but technology issues, advisors with egos, and low pay with no benefits or expensive benefits, will make life miserable. Because you don't work for IG Wealth itself, but work for the advisor, if they don't run their practice properly, you don't have any backup or support from the Company. It's kind of ironic that you will help people save for retirement and set up insurance plans, while not getting paid enough to do that for yourself...
Pros
Great Diversity & Inclusion Initiatives
Cons
You will be miserable when you can't pay your bills or afford health insurance

Wonderful place to work.
Client Service Representative (Former Employee) - Concord, ON - 9 June 2021
Wonderful place to work. Management always having contests for top producers and overall it was a fun place to work. Treated office staff with respect and it was the best job I ever had. I won a praise award for client servicing as the office was very busy during RSP season but always got treated with respect and kindness. Very professional atmosphere and will mentor you in a positive manner.
Pros

Cons
Long hours during RSP sseason

New Hire Beware!
Account Manager (Former Employee) - Peterborough, ON - 26 May 2021
To sum it up at IG: The entire business model is based on churning in new hires in order to sign on new accounts. Ex: friends and family of the new hire. Those are the first accounts for all new hires and once that drys up, mgmt pressures new hires to continue at that pace via any means, including cold calls etc! And for most all new hires, they don’t last 2 years at IG because of this. And when you leave, of course you leave your clients behind with other “selected few” senior IG representatives who now benefit from more free clients (cash under management) and associated commissions of any future business with said new clients or their referrals!
Pros
Meet some good people. Flexible.
Cons
commission mostly

Out for themselves
Associate Consultant (Former Employee) - British Columbia - 18 January 2021
The division managers at first come across as your friend, like they will be there with you every step of the way. What it really is is they get paid for everyone they bring on and when you fail, they get your clients - they pick through the potential god ones and throw away the bad ones to any new advisors or associates coming aboard. It’s a vicious cycle and only a few will last. If you are lucky enough to get on as an associate and have good mentor you might have a fighting chance but a good mentor who will actually give you some time is hard to come by. Most are out for themselves.
