After pandemic, the company took a downturn, 1 person does 2-3 person job. Bigger area from what it used to be. Most of the time you cant take a short break because of how busy you are. Made some good friends with some coworkers though.

Sorting then lots of down time

Job itself is easy. Prepare for either lots of downtime or running with your head cut off if 1 or more person is off. Small warehouse environment, if you dont get along with people wont last long

Provided a steady income for a small town environment

For the type of job I had, the income was not bad. Pay raises were very stingy and across the board... not dependent on your work performance. It used to be a place where you could count on job security (at the branch where I worked) but not anymore.

I can tell you working at ICS isn’t that bad. I just wish the pay progressing could be somewhat better for the things we do. The driver’s and sorters do belong to a union and over the years I certainly feel grateful for that. I could imagine that if we didn’t have a union most of the current workers would be replaced by non unionized members. Then I’m sure would then probably only hire part time workers. It could nice to have reward incentives like profit sharing. I wish the management could be more thankful when odd jobs are completed. There’s simply not enough of the management saying Thank You when you complete something extra for them, that bothers me. Other than getting a paycheque I feel there’s nothing else rewarding. The medical benefits are pretty good. Since coming back from the Covid lockdown because I took a layoff when things were closing down. I just feel there that I’m overwhelmed with extra jobs to do and gets frustrating that I have to stay after my scheduled work time so that I can probably get paid for my time. If you tell them I had to work through my lunch they always forget to adjust the hours.

Contractor all you are

CONTRACT courier (Former Employee) - Calgary, AB - 4 April 2022

If your appling as a contractor then expect thats is all you will be in thier eyes. The Job itself is go go go..dont expect break or you will fall behind on your route. Its set up so that you will make exactly what the route you get pays. give or take 100bucks. If your a contractor say goodby to any holidays in your life or time off. They will not cover you for any reason you must provide your own coverage when you need time off. THAT means you need to train someone at least a week with your vehicle that your replacement will drive. So better call your ins for that as well. Otherwise pay is good. Just sad to see no support when time off is needed and good drivers will leave do to BURNOUT. oh expect 10hrs days.

Good learning but the organisation is not good

It was really interesting and the manager and my colleagues were really nice, but the organization of the work is really complicated. You have a lot of work on your hand and need to do everything really fast without much time.You can’t really respond to the customer immediately, so you feel unhelpful and very useless some time. For me, the wage is not enough for what they asked us.

Don’t waste your time.

First couple of days of training, zero time to learn the route. Too many stops to complete in the allotted eight hours, training drivers driving 20 km over the posted speed limit all day long. Almost involved in a major collision on about day three. Very condescending and arrogant manager. Stay away.

Busy but fairly divided work load

Supervisor was very helpful , just needed safe and efficient work practices. Union shop , so wages were good. Was there as a temp so didn’t get in union . I left because I was not able to lift the heavier boxes but would say they treated me well and I appreciated the friendly coworkers

okay place to work

My experience working at ICS Courier was okay when out on road. When in the shop the Boss is nothing but a bully and threatens you all the time about your job. I found it to be very stressful going to work first thing in morning and after doing run stress full because of the boss. My co-workers were a great bunch to work with, But I would never recommend my friends to work there basically because of the boss.

Their ethics can not be trusted. Their error on a minor scratch accident was reported as $25k damage. Error or deliberate false report? They then harassed me out the door and gave me a very bad settlement because the union is in the company 's pocket.

Great people and work environment

People are great and professional. Managers and supervisors in Ottawa are the most accommodating and fun to work with. Benefits are awesome and the work however busy it is feels like a breeze. At the end of the day you feel productive knowing parcels are properly dispatched.

Typical work day

Shift begins at 1am. My shift begins with a pre sort of materials, then a secondary sort which includes sorting into individual routes for delivery.First break is at 2:30am.After break I scan materials to individual customers for deliveries.Dinner break in between is at 4:00 am, however, I've on many occasions opted out of this break if we are short handed and running a little behind.Remainder of my shift would involve a continuation of scanning and placing all materials in order to be delivered by our drivers.Shift ended at 9:30am, however, I've stayed on longer when there were days that the air mail has been delayed, or late delivery of freight due to inclement weather.
