Good union to be part of to learn the trade.

Many good contractors to work for. Excellent pay and benefits (best in industry). Good training programs available to members. Work environments vary from job to job. You are able to move around to different companies and different jobs if you want to.

Excellent pay and benefits/pension, Double time overtime rates, Some companies offer company vehicles to employees

Work/life balance not always the greatest (depends on job site), You have to go where the work is, this can mean a lot of time commuting, Job security can sometimes be an issue in bad economy

Old boys club and very clique oriented The 115 local has a underhanded back stabbing mentality. Encouraging the rat people out attitude Failure to follow IBEW constitution rules etc. example….. the assistant BA was also owner of a company signed to the IBEW. At meetings members of company management often spoke up and always voted on all motions

Usually a 4 day work week

Zero job stability

Good for people qho dont value themselves, or their time.

Not much to say. If you're looking to work with a bunch of chain smoking alcoholics who love nothing more than to moan about how much they hate their job, you, and everyone around you, then this is the place for you. They don't value your time, effort, or accomplishments, and some people will actually take credit for solutions to problems you solve if it benefits them.Benefits are good, pay is decent, but you gotta wade through so much, that its no wonder these guys are the way they are. I would be too if I stuck with that life.

Pay, benefits, home daily

Cukture is toxic, no recognition for accomplishments, new guys are essentially endentured to the foreman

Fast paced, construction with great detail

Hard work with serious working people. Installing and terminating cable, mostly in new construction. Also could be demolitionor adds to existing installations. Most work from 6:30-3:00pm. PPE are boots, hard hat, glasses and high viss

Still recommend although work is not plenty and work is easy

Definitely the easiest trade of the bunch. You will spend time pulling wire or installing device boxes or piping. Those are basically your three key job duties. You will be spending lots of time looking for connectors like a plumber. You only really will be learning in the short times you spend in school. You don't need to think much because the engineers have it all planned out for you. Basically you just screw in and connect things. Having 5 years of experience to be a JMAN is definitely extremely blown out of proportion. You will spend your apprenticeship not learning much and climbing a hierarchy food chain based on favoritism and alot of luck. Work is hard to find mostly because anyone can do it. An apprentice does similar to a JMAN but again it is based on a food chain system. You only get the big rewards based on time. For example if there is a task to do it goes down to time in not based on ability. I would recommend this position if you want a simple physical job in the trades wthout outdoor dirty work and don't mind sitting down when they tell you to. But if you want a harder challenge dont go trades try software or business. Just rememeber there is a lot of favoritism here and work is hard to find.

simple mostly clean work with good pay, pension, physical work

Engineers do all the thinking for you, hard to learn, high dues, repetitive

Not happy with this Union

Wouldn't recommend. The management/office people don't do anything for the workers except take their dues. That's basically what they care about, they have a huge training facility but if you haven't been working you don't have the hours and won't be allowed to train there in order to bid on jobs. They rarely help out and they have an stuck up attitude when calling in. The only good thing about them is the pension. The work culture is very clicky. Shame as there is some really great people, just wish the hall had the same feeling.

very little work

The worst place to work

When I started it was great then new management, very immature and arrogant, unfair and self centered. Even though this is a union environment it is a very cruel environment to anyone who wishes to work hard and not be part of the clique...one of the worst offices to work in in my experience, I have worked in many offices and this was the absolute worst years of my employment history hustory

Nothing good about this place

If you get a job here careful, theyll do their best to break any self esteem you have

Great work if you can get it

Union work is excellent. This is a group of tradespeople that believe in doing correct work on-schedule, safely, and for a wage commensurate with the labour that they do. The larger body of their employment has dwindled in the last five years due to oil and gas woes in Alberta, but they fight for fair working conditions and it shows. Individual job sites and contractors vary as much as one could expect; quality of life is frequently at the mercy of who your superiors are, even within specific signatory companies, but my experience has been that hard, correct work and good people skills are rewarded. Loyalty begets loyalty here as much as as it can in any contractor-driven environment, and safety is absolutely a primary concern.

Wash Carts, good pay, fantastic benefits

Difficult to find work

Unions = worker represention

I've always believed in working hard and being respectful and being respected along with being able to work in a safe work site with worker represention

productive and educational

Work with like individuals on various projects. Typically industrial, residential and commercial. Job sites are safe and clean. All necessary equipment is supplied, you only supply personal hand tools.

Not the best atmosphere

Started off great while.there was lots of work. As work dwindled people you thought were friends and good conworkers became backstabbers to keep their positions. Calling contractor s to find the next big job. Allot of horrible people

Work for the worst wormy, rat, cheap contractors who will verbally abuse and overwork apprentices to do journeyman work. They talk of it as a brotherhood more like how fast can I stab you in the back.
