You need time to learn all the material that is available. The challenge is having the opportunities to apply such knowledge. Unless you are at the right place at the right time, you will not have the opportunities to do such.

No other company is even comparable to IBM in terms of work and personal life balance. It's really good and work culture is great. Leave policy, Medical Health Insurance, work environment, work from home, etc are very good facilities to employees.
Used to be a great company but lost its luster with North America jobs sent overseas without regards for cultural differences or timezones.
Peoples in America have to work in real time with peoples in India; someone obviously have to work outside business hours and it shows in the quality of the work. IBM practice the so called 'furlough', meaning contractors are lay-off for a few weeks (3 to 4 weeks every 3 months lately I heard, an increase compare to the one to two weeks when I worked there). IBM put pressure on its employees to work over 40 hours without being paid for the extra time worked. Last time I work there, IBM was still open to remote work.

IBM is a company where any one can work independently with lot of trust and innovation. Work culture is very good and IBM gave me a lot of opportunities to advance my professional skill set. I had exposure to international projects and manage projects on a global scale with a large budget.
IBM has a good reputation and it's trying to live by its rules. Just make sure you're not the first line of defense because that means average pay, being always expendable and made aware of that every step of the way. They would actually bend the rules to require more from you than what is legally required by your job description.
