Interaction Designer (Former Employee) –  Westlake, OH12 April 2019
I worked so hard to be part of this software company. The work-life balance is important at this workplace. There are so many fun activities that you can do and many many free classes that you cab join to improve your skills, or simply a hobby!

Fun work environment that lacks strong leadership
Consultant (Current Employee) –  Westlake, OH21 February 2019
Hyland is a great place to work. Everyone is very friendly and always willing to help. Pay is on the lower side compared to other companies. Some departments have great training programs that help you advance your career while others lack any basic training at all. Leadership seems to be either overwhelmed or in over their head.
Lower and upper management both need better guidance and direction from the top executives.
Pros
Great work culture, good benefits
Cons
low pay, being a "yes man" is the only way to move up into higher management

No longer best place to work
Technical Consultant- Healthcare (Current Employee) –  Westlake, OH19 February 2019
They pick and choose who they want to succeed, who gets training and opportunities to advance. The culture has changed to a typical office environment. More and more perks are disappearing. Raises are non-existent. They push that "things could be worse" and should be happy you have a job.
Pros
casual work environment
Cons
pay, loss of work/life balance

Payment Poster III (Former Employee) –  Westlake, OH19 November 2018
A typical day for me was coming into work, working with two monitors to post insurance and patient payments and denials. Hyland as a workplace culture is enjoyable. The hardest part of the job is being told that you have to be laid off because of a reduction in size to the company. I loved working as a payment poster.

Used to be a great place to work
Consultant (Former Employee) –  Westlake, OH15 November 2018
I used to enjoy working at Hyland but things have changed drastically. Everything has been "Verticalized" but all of my management came from a different vertical so no one knew how to provide any assistance. Hyland would frequently buy out an acquire competitors, presumably to eliminate the competition not by having a better product but by having less competition. This would be fine if they didn't have workforce reductions and fire a ton of people afterwards because they didn't have the work to afford them. Bonus' are based on utilization goals that no one in the department hits unless you are assigned a 40 hour a week staff augmentation. The healthcare is not very expensive but also nothing to brag about. You are required to get annual screenings and physicals to receive the discounts. Years ago, they would have sporadic events such as dodgeball tournaments that they often still brag about on social media referring to "TBT to our 2010 dodgeball tournament". Reason for the TBT is because these haven't happened in years. The culture that was once brag worthy has become practically non-existent so now you are just settling for a normal job at below industry standard pay. To be fair, this was services. My time in R&D was actually great, however that was before the reorganization that no one seems to be fond of.
Pros
Free m&ms, Lots of good people, Nice facility

This place is awesome. A typical work day entailed enjoying great food from the onsite diner and working with really friendly people. Most of the people here have a family mentality and this is what makes Hyland so welcoming.

No more holiday parties..clam jam was horrible this year. I see this company folding. Be warned..total lay off in 3 days has risen to at least 25 people.
Pros
Nothing but free soda..pretzles amd mnms

Not a place if you have experience
Project Manager (Current Employee) –  Westlake, OH22 October 2018
If this is your first job out of college, it is a great place to work. If you are burnt out and tired of toxic "corporate" cultures, this is a good place to work. If you want to feel accomplished or share your wealth of experience, this is not the place to work. Most of the middle and top level managers started at Hyland right out of college. Their knowledge and experiences are really limited. They only know the Hyland way, and the Hyland way is normally a made-up, convoluted process. I wouldn't have thought promoting from within would be a bad thing until I worked here. The culture really frowns up going against the grain or "hurting someone's feelings" i.e. disagreeing. Hyland is very cult-like and there are certain ideas that most always be maintained even though they aren't true 1) everyone is always busy. 2) Hyland is the best place to work, 3) Free M & Ms make up for the lower than average industry pay.
Pros
fun people, interesting perks
Cons
not for those with experience, only 15 PTO, management is ineffective

Technical Support Analyst (Former Employee) –  Westlake, OH2 October 2018
Company offers a lot of perks (on-site beauty shop, massage, workout facility, etc.). The people are great and there are many opportunities to learn. You are pushed just enough to keep you challenged and there is always help if you need it. The culture is great also.
Pros
Perks, opportunities to learn, co-workers
Cons
Pay, advancement is dependent on how much Kool-Aid you drink

Technical Support Analyst I (Current Employee) –  Lincoln, NE21 August 2018
Although this is my first job with a larger company after talking with others during the onboarding process, it seems to be one of the most open with their employees. Advancement is clearly laid out with job expectations and how to attain said advancement. Management and executives are all very down to earth and seem to want everyone to succeed and make the company better. They continually invest in their employees with opportunities for training & monetary and non monetary incentives and benefits. The CEO during our onboarding process was only supposed to be scheduled for a half hour, ended up staying an hour and a half just chatting and answering questions. The Westlake head quarters offers plenty of other benefits like: free unlimited amount of multiple coffees, softdrinks, m&ms/pretzels, a good diner with salad bar, things like onsite urgent care, salon, gym, tennis & volleyball court. Things like happy hours, food truck days, pancake feeds etc.. are all common as well. The cons I would say are that it is a rapidly growing business, things like job title or process changes as well as having to reapply for positions are fairly common. From the short time I've been here the ones that groan the most are the ones who don't really want to progress with their career and have an attitude to go along with it. For those going in tech support be assured it's not a call center. Tickets take as long as needed (within reason), there is no quota, and although it may seem like they throw you in the deep end there are usually multiple people around you to make sure you have help when you  more... need it. Most of the other technical support people have on average 3-4 years of experience with some topping the 15 year mark and are happy to help with what they may conceive as simple because they were in your place before.  less

Great company, great people
General Manager (Former Employee) –  Westlake, OH16 July 2018
Hyland enables and equips employees to work in self-directed teams and provides great work-life balance. Management is genuinely concerned about employee well-being and the culture is one of development and encouragement striving to the best in the industry while working across cross-functional teams.
The best part about Hyland is the leadership team and the people you get to work with every day. It can be challenging at times because the company is very fast-paced growing significantly year over year.
Pros
People, perks, and work environment
Cons
Rapid growth bringing some new challenges

Fun place to work
Employee (Current Employee) –  Westlake, OH30 May 2018
Hyland Software is a fun place to work and there are many opportunities within the company (with a caveat). Stay within a department and you may potentially advance in both pay and position. However, move from one department from another and you may experience the opposite. Setbacks in fact.

Work-life balance is excellent and management is usually flexible when it comes to taking time off. Just don't expect great salary/wages. Pay raise are almost non-existent. Westlake area is expensive, Cleveland is starting a trend to improve parts of the city, but it's not quite where it should be and it's getting expensive. Don't expect to live in a trendy neighborhood while working for Hyland Software.
Pros
Work-Life balance
Cons
Pay
