Poor work environment, no chance at advancement.

Typical day was routine to say the least. Learned in the first years, very little later on. Management wasn't properly trained to manage the employees. Workplace was hostile. hardest part of the job was staying motivated. most enjoyable part of work was pay and benefits.

Stereotypical old boys club

There are more levels of “management” than there are in a wedding cake. Yes men have a hard time advancing, but if you’re a yes woman or yes visible minority, then welcome to the gravy train. Third world applicants will fair well as corruption seems to be the main flavour with this company. No one person gets rich by being honest. This company is so big and the management is so bad, it eats itself from the bottom up, in a top heavy structure.

Great experience for internship

Husky has great company culture, all my co-workers were very friendly and fun to be with. As a summer student, you learn hands on experience of the rotary equipment, engine rooms, pipes, valves, instrumentation, rig operations, maintenance and troubleshooting, Drive a company truck several hours a day for maintenance of all the oil wells. Good to see the different types of problems and issues that appear on the field but rarely mentioned during engineering design work. Lots of safety culture, many safety meetings. The plant was a sour facility, so there was extensive first aid, H2S and other safety training.

remote field operations

Rainbow lake operations consisted of daily testing, and weekly and monthly pigging schedule. maintaining equipment and taking chemical rates. On a weekly basis we would change water filters. Managing compressors, satellite facilities, pump jacks and gas lift wells. Working independently or with help from operators on other runs. We would trouble shoot downed equipment or lines and take necessary measures to get flow back up and running.

Pros

learning new areas

Cons

remote location
