Understaffing is a huge problem here.

They just can’t seem to find nurses that want to work there. There has been a lot of recent turnover in staff and management. On the plus side, parking is free if you work in Seaforth.

Toxic environment

You are just a number and they really don't care about us, our work life balance. It's a bizarre place to be. It's lacking team work and it's full of division amongst the departments.

Pros

Higher pay rate

Cons

Lots. No work life balance. Toxic people. No accountability for no work ethic

Stressful

The management/senior team do not seem interested in retaining seasoned staff. They have chosen to blame the current HR crisis on the pandemic; whereas, this HR crisis started years ago, the pandemic just complicated it

Pros

None

Cons

too numerous to list

Cooperative environment, highly recommend

We have a close knit community at all of our sites, welcoming and warm staff. Plenty of work and for those looking for a step up in the workplace, there are many opportunities for growth. Many of our staff are close to retirement. We need new ideas and people!

Pros

Wonderful community vibe

Cons

Short staffed at the moment

Amazing place to work!

I'm leaving HPHA for another opportunity soon, but it's been an amazing place to work. Healthcare is undeniably stressful, especially with a global pandemic thrown into the mix. The senior leadership is the best I've ever worked for. They are compassionate, emphatic and work hard to make HPHA a great employer. You'll read some comments about how miserable it is, but to these negative people I say, suck it up and realize how good you have it. ALL hospitals are going through strained times but HPHA does its absolute best to make it a positive culture.

Pros

High pay, positive culture, great team mentality, growth opportunities

Cons

none really

Poor management

My skills (education and experience) were under utilized and I therefore felt no sense of pride or accomplishment in my work. When assaulted by patients, myself and coworkers were denied reviews of the situation as to how things could have been managed differently. Instead, we were offered platitudes such as “I know you did your best”, or “you know s/he’s not well”. These were not helpful in any way. Overall, not a great work environment because of poor management.

The job is great, their policies are not

I can't complain about the work, it's not difficult. You're paid too much for it. It is usually pretty busy in the mornings and afternoons, but you will have a lot of down time in the evenings. Only reason I'm not rating this higher is because of their policies. Rules and restrictions are pretty strict and many are questionable, and quite unfair and discriminatory both towards staff and visitors if they haven't taken a certain vaccine.

Pros

Good pay, laid back, good cafeteria, decent coworkers

Cons

Bad policies

Stressful employer, good pay

There are lots of opportunities in multiple departments to gain experience and education. Even when working part time can get full time hours. The pay is excellent. Shift work most departments. Pay for parking and union dues

Hpha

Great local hospital, fair management and great team work. The hardest part of the job is working in a rural area, but you learn a lot. The most enjoyable part of the job is being a valued member of a team, and working all together in different disciplines.

as an RPN

Excellent company to work for. Dedicated staff and management. As an RPN we used all our skills. We had a lot of responsibility in our job. The overall care was excellent at Stratford. We had to learn to be well organized in our job. The hardest part of the job was working short staffed. Everyone had to take extra patients on. So it was difficult to adjust sometimes. The most enjoyable part of the job was seeing patients get better after having surgery, and going home.

Pros

Giving great care.

Cons

short staffed

Great Multidisciplinary Team

The Health Care Team at Stratford General Hospital are very kind and helpful staff. They have made working here a very great learning experience. The patient care received at HPHA is very therapeutic. I have enjoyed my Temporary position here and would love to come back one day.

productive and fun place to work

I enjoy my job and the people I work with. My supervisor is excellent. I am looking for advancement and none is provided at this time. The most rewarding part and most difficult part of my job is people. Meaning, we as Environmental Service support personnel basically are customer service representatives to staff, patients, families and public.

Pros

staff appreciation lunches, staff forums, any good idea is listened to and implemented if possible

Cons

hard work
