Great employer with stellar pay and benefits. The best I've seen. Hard to advance and challenging product to sell. Need to have excellent territory and territory resources.

Lacking Consistent Vision & Leadership
Training Operations (Former Employee) –  Remote6 March 2017
Company with great benefits, but lacking in a consistent vision and leadership which creates uncertainty and confusion. Since becoming public the company cares more about #s then growth of employees.

Fun with Learning
Product Support Specialist SQL (Current Employee) –  Santa Clara, California29 November 2016
Its an awesome place to work, a little more structuring on the training part will make it a perfect place to work.

Best part of working in an organization like Hortonworks is the adaptation of new technologies in the realm of Big Data. Although, catching up with everything thats around takes a toll on learning. The con of this industry is lack of documentation because coders submit the code however enough documentation isn't available.
Pros
Adaptation to open source technologies
Cons
Too many things to catch up and less structured training

Was recruited and hired into hortonworks. They then let go of 90% of our group less than 90 days later with little explanation as to why.

Good salary, not a great culture
Enterprise Business Development Representative (Current Employee) –  Atlanta, GA11 July 2016
Hortonworks has helped me develop skills as a salesman, but has not provided me with opportunities to advance. Like the people I work with, but the sales culture as a whole is discouraging and not the best environment to work in. Wanting to get out of enterprise business and back into sports.
Pros
Salary, benefits
Cons
Sales culture, advancement is slim
