Hundreds live “rough” in ravines, stairwells or on the street. Hundreds more suffer with mental health and addictions issues. This forgotten slice of our population, people who have been street-involved for several years and who have nowhere else to go, is where Homes First comes in. We provide Housing First. We were the first and remain one of the largest providers of homes for people with the fewest options in Toronto....

The best and brightest aren't always the ones promoted.
Social service work which is generally underfunded. Not enough training for management which leads to poor leadership at times and chaotic work environments. This is the luck of the draw - win some lose some. Upper management don't take time to understand the workings of each site and make decisions that aren't necessarily in the best interest of the staff at those sites. Hierarchical work enviro...

Fair pay but poor management
Colleagues and clients are nice. Management are not client-centered, and treat clients like charitable cases with no agency. Very little support from some supervisors, which makes the work very hard.

Workplace
Ok, management tends to isolate themselves front frontline staff. Lots of overdoses and no mental health check ins. Some sites are relaxed while others can be extremely toxic.

Poor management
Management has poor budget skills. Money spent on less important departments and others are underfunded resulting in issues that they complain about about, wonder why genius!?Very two faced. Place is a revolving door of employees. Pay is low no matter your departments. Unless your in management.I really wonder how some people get where they are.

Save your mental health and work elsewhere
Homes first is a difficult place to work. Your consistently stressed; they say they are client focused but they are not. The don't train you for the position. The first day I started I was shown my desk and left alone very unwelcoming. The rumor mill is strong at this place....No direction, you have to learn on the go but with no support. And consistently being told you wont make it past probation...
