At Homer, where the rotisserie and the handpicked selection of local and international unique spirits and wines where the stars, the staff was the soul of the place. Front and back of the house worked in harmony. Family style dinner at Homer, was also a way to care for our guests, not only a way to share the food with each other. Efficiency, friendliness, professionalism and high energy were essential qualities in our crowded restaurant.
With over 10 years experience working in food and beverage I have had the honour of working with some great leader. The management team at Homer Street Are hands down the best. They give you the tools to be the best you can be. With wine training, spirits and beer knowledge and my favourite food tastings. The FOH and BOH work together to make everyday a fun, happy and profitable work environment. If you are a hard working with a great attitude Homer is the place for you.
Previously, working at Homer St Cafe and Bar felt like being a part of a family! It was a privilege to work in a supportive environment with opportunities to be promoted within. Despite the tip pool being poorly arranged, the staff was happy to collaborate as a team every single day. Some FOH and BOH staff had dedicated their time to Homer for 5 years, since it's inception. It is outstanding to find that in any other restaurants in the city.
But as the management shifted in the summer of 2018, staff were treated carelessly and often cornered and bullied before/during/and after service.
The company brought in the current GM and since her arrival the turnover has been impeccable. Not only did she force people into quitting but she also fired staff without reason. She was considerably unwilling to encourage her staff to grow and evolve with the company's desired image. Homer has become a negative environment to be involved in.
You can make more money at any other restaurant in the city and spare yourself from a manager who doesn't know the first thing about managing people.
While the atmosphere, food, and serving staff were amazing, the quality of the management team has definitely downgraded. Five new hires have quit in less than three months. The entire bartending staff has quit and the head chef has also quit. Management makes it quite obvious that it doesn't care about its staff members, won't listen to recommendations, or concerns. Servers are treated well but the cooking staff, bartenders, hosts, and bussers are all poorly paid and treated.
If you are unhappy here then it's you not the company. It really was a good place to work where everyone was happy and most of the the workers knew what they were doing.
