The night shift worker starts by writing the next day's menu on the white board. The next chore is a multi tasking situation, cleaning the large coffee and tea carafes and washing the resident's kitchen and appliances. Then the resident's fridge is emptied and all containers are emptied, cleaned and re-supplied. The next chore is to vaccuum the large common area, next she washes all the tables in the dining room, cleans the smoker's room and washes the staff table. Next she sweeps and washes the large dining room floor. Then all the tables are set for morning breakfast. After that juices are made, potatoes are peeled, the kitchen is prepared for the morning cook. Then the kitchen is cleaned and all the stainless steal shined up. After that the staff bathroom is cleaned and the bird cages are cleaned, birds fed and watered. Then all used towels etc are taken to the laundry room. The doors are unlocked, alarms turned off, morning coffee and tea made. There are also daily extra duties. I have been given an emergency first aid course while working here. The management is not good, this is the only place I have ever worked where the employees are encouraged to "write each other up"! This is a tool that is usually only available to the management staff and that is where it should stay. Since the kitchen manager and the assistant administrator have "been friends for years" and one of the kitchen staff is now a part of their 'girl's nights' etc there is a lot of partiality given between these employees none of whom are qualified for the positions they hold. The rest of the employeesmore... seem quite nice however, I do work nights and rarely see anyone else.The hardest part of this job is the manual labor which is always being added to. Management was almost never able to get a hold of, but if they couldn't get a hold of you, they wouldn't ever let you forget about for months! Staff was very politicized, and it seemed like none of staff wanted to be there, and it shows in how they will treat the seniors. Working conditions got worse and worse, all the while management and other staff would harrass and name call each other.
Would not recommend to work here unless there's nothing else.

Staff are very aggressive towards each other and residents. Several times a day the staff will call residents with dementia idoiots. Management will sometimes schedule for shifts without asking and there is two different places to check the schedule and both are unreliable, so I never knew which shifts were correct, but if I got it wrong and would talk to management, they would act like I was being mean to them? Full time staff have cliques and if you don't fit into the cliques, you get glared at during break or get name called like you're in elementary school. Definitely would not recommend working here, unless you like bully resdients in their home.
