Supportive colleagues and management
Registered Nurse (Current Employee) - Stoney Creek, ON - 29 October 2023
The most enjoyable part of my job as a Charge Nurse is that I get to meet some great seniors in my facility. Staff are eager to help you. If you respect other staffs, they will respect you. Every day is not a same day. Learning is an ongoing journey in this facility. They have mandatory monthly online lessons or courses which ensures that you stay ahead in the game!
Pros
Supportive management and colleagues
Cons
Staff shortages

Negative environment
Registered Practical Nurse (Former Employee) - Stoney Creek, ON - 28 December 2021
Management was unapproachable as well as unsupportive. I would never recommend anyone work there. The moral was very low as well as a very narrow minded view.
Pros
Staff was nice
Cons
Management was terrible and so was the food

Workplace bullying is very evident
DIETARY AIDE / COOK (Former Employee) - Hamilton, ON - 15 April 2020
I love working with and serving the elderly. The job is doable. But based on my experience, problem of bullying is not addressed effectively. This has made workers scared to work. Sometimes evident harassment is never solve in a professional manner. Heritage green nursing home is a christian based facility and the management believe in forgiveness and long suffering. So when complain is brought out, it's not addressed effectively.

Great place to work/ volunteer
Student worker. Assist residents (Former Employee) - Stoney Creek, ON - 17 February 2020
A typical day involved assisting residents to go to events within the building, talking to residents, playing games with the residents, making sure each resident has company.

Run
Personal Support Worker (Former Employee) - Stoney Creek, ON - 12 January 2020
They are always under staff and the workload is very heavy. They do not listen to staff concerns and there is no employee involvement. They have a very high turnover for a reason. They do not care about you and never will. They have a ridiculous rule with the dress code. You are forced into buying white shoes, you are not allowed to have coloured hair. They do not want the staff to wear make-up. When you get hired the staff do not help you and you have to figure it out on your own.

Best
Personal Support Worker (Former Employee) - Stoney Creek, ON - 11 January 2020
One of the best places I ever worked for in my years of working in the health care field. The staffs work well together as a team and you can talk to any manager or team leader about any issues

VOLUNTEER (Former Employee) - Hamilton, ON - 10 May 2019
A lot of the seniors are very loving and fun to be around but there are some obviously that are a bit rude but expected. The worker are also very kind but some are a bit pushy.

Busy and friendly work environment with great patients and workers.
Dietary Aide (Former Employee) - Hamilton, ON - 14 May 2013
I would prepare juices and milk and serve the occupants. My co-workers and management were all very friendly and easy to work with. The hardest and most enjoyable part of my job was to hear some elderly patients stories. Some told stories about their families not visiting and some of the great times they had. Each day was a new experience and I thoroughly enjoyed socializing with them all. Although I learned that in a professional setting you need to separate yourself emotionally from situations. You find yourself sympathizing with some people more than others when their stories were sad or they were extra friendly. The difficult occupants who refused to eat needed a lot of patience and persistence.
Pros
Meeting new people and building relationships
Cons
none
