Low wages. Low stress

Indeed featured review

The most useful review selected by Indeed
In building maintenance the wages are extremely low for trades people. Work itself was not very challenging. Good if you don't want to think too much. Payroll is always incorrect and takes weeks to correct issues.

Pros

Calm work environment

Cons

Not challenging . Low pay

Quite horrible and humiliating

I lasted under two weeks. Staff are not too kind to new people with years of experience. They "want you to succeed". but think nothing of throwing you to the wolves with little training, and expect you to "hit the ground running". Bad attitudes and behavior are never reprimanded, but take your break at the wrong time and expect to be hauled into the office. There is a reason this place continues to hire for the same roles. It's not a healthy, nor happy work environment, and has very high turnover. This is the place where sociopaths thrive and the meek cry. You've been warned.

Pros

Nothing

Productive and professional workplace

I liked working here, the work wasn't very difficult, and it definitely was not as stressful as some other jobs I have had. Not very many opportunities for advancement within the department, however.

Pros

positive work environment

Cons

no opportunities for advancement

Fast paced

Fast paced. Very busy and stressful. Loved my coworkers. Management was hit or miss. Good benefits with decent pay. Lots of weekends and holidays worked .

Great pay, not much else…

Work life balance is trash, managers work their employees to the ground and then wonder why no one wants to stick around. Employee turnover in some departments is insanely high. Managers are constantly in meetings and have little to no time for their employees.

Cancel culture, totalitarian, a terrible place to work, poor management, policies change to force unjabbed staff out after years of unmarred service.

Not a nice place to work, totalitarian, high turnover, a lot of nonsense rules, cancel culture, best part of the job was getting fired for not getting vaccinated, keep looking because it is a very dehumanizing place to work.

Pros

Zip.

Cons

Poor wages, Tyranny, Bad management, No job security, change policies and force people out the door based on new rules, very hitler'ish.

Volunteer work

Did some volunteer work with them and was a fun time organizing an event for the employees of Health sciences North. Can't say much about the work load as it was a volunteer position

Good staff to work with.....

Being forced to move units because of nursing shortage.....not cool. Working 3-5 nurses short every shift.....not cool! These days has made me realize I want out of the profession totally.

Pros

Exit gate off the property

Cons

Have to pay $900/yr for that gate to let me out!

Working as a team and coping with stress in a healthy way

I had the opportunity to work with wonderful people and enjoyed communicating with the patients on our unit. The only major issue that they need to work on was the communication between managers and staff and union representatives.

Cons

RNs that treat you like you are beneath them. Pride and over confidence causes errors.

Exhausting and stress full; Feel like talking to a brick wall?

Managment considers research disposable if its not conducted by a Physician and Scientists with years of experience are overlooked and demeaned by a Senior Leadership with no research or scientific experiences whatsoever.

Pros

Good Benefits

Cons

Long hours, no job growth, condescending leadership

Large employer with great staff

Many pros and cons like any large, public organization. The Frontline staff really care about the people and are what really makes HSN a great place to work. Some great managers that want to see their employees succeed but no opportunity to move up if you are not bilingual. The workplace culture is not very good at times but that is because of a select few. Overall, it is a great place to work if you understand it’s publicly funded healthcare organization that is open 24/7.

Good place to gain experience

Health Sciences North is a good hospital to gain experience. The patient demographic is extensive. Any given day you could work with neonates to adult critical care.

Horrible Management and Nepotism

Health Sciences North Research Institute is more a vessel for upper management to promote themselves rather than to be about medical and health research for the people of Sudbury. Management will readily hire friends and promote them to high positions with little to no relevant credentials. There is a complete lack of support for the Scientists who perform the research and their staff, throwing the Scientists under the bus in order to save themselves and their irrelevant positions. Since its inception, HSNRI has systematically removed anyone who challenged the model for a more sustainable model, leaving the institute with bare-bone staffing which would make the institute barely pass as an actual place of research. Their multi-million dollar facility is a constant money drain, and rather than to admit they made a mistake, they continue fuelling what little money they have into the maintenance of the building, whose infrastructure continues to crumble despite the multi-million dollar renovations. All HSNRI employees work in fear of being fired or let go at any moment, leaving the atmosphere tense and drab. Truly a horribly mis-managed research institute.

Productive and fun workplace

The most enjoyable part of this job is dealing with the patients coming into the Diabetes Care Clinic. Management is wonderful and the workplace culture is very positive.

Good Workplace to work

Health Sciences North , I think is a workplace to work. You should know how to work in a team and individually. I was on my student placements when I was there, but it was fun.

Interesting place to work.

Healthcare is a money grab for doctors and bureaucrats, it’s that simple. If they really cared in healthcare they would be more accessible, smaller salaries and less perks for the big shots. More people did due to medical malpractice 20,000-30,000 estimated in Canada more than approx 220 firearm deaths and 3-4000 motor vehicle deaths per annum. Google it. If managers , directors, board members and CEOs really cared they would take pay cuts, open their offices and boardrooms as extra hospital rooms, cut their bonuses and come in to cover shortages. Most of them have licences to practice but they don’t. Or won’t. Front line staff and the public suffer, or worse.

Pros

Helping people.

Cons

Not helping people.

Its a mess but it pays well.

If you can get in, the money is decent, but you'll be working "part-time" shift work. Management is TERRIBLE and the union is a joke. You're looking at at least 5 but closer to 7 or 10 years before you can get full time.

Rewarding position

Rewarding outcomes, safe environment to work in. Peer support is very good. Dealing with medical records can be stressful from a troubleshooting aspect, tasks must be completed immediately.
