It's all Politics

Indeed featured review

The most useful review selected by Indeed
It's all politics at HHS. It's more about who you know and who likes you. Management has their favorites. You will not advance here. HR department is corrupt. Some staff are miserable as they've seen alot of cutbacks and changes and not for the good. The Hospital itself is not clean. Patient care no longer exists and it's unfortunate as it's outta our hands. My coworkers are what keep me going everyday.

Pros

Hoop

Cons

Lots

Awful place to work

Medical staff and management nasty and disrespectful to administrative staff. Excessive workload. Back stabbing culture. Expected more from medical professionals, so was very disturbed by their arrogant attitude. On boarding was good and training provided prior to job start. Pay and benefits good.

Pros

Pay and benefits

Cons

Management and staff overall

Great Place to Work and Great People

Great staff and management was easy to communicate with. Some people obviously there just for the paycheck, but most staff are courteous and care about the quality of care provided and work produced.

Pros

Great Cafeteria, Free Staff Lunches 2x per year

Cons

Older Facility

Great Co-op Internship

The people at HHS were great people to work with and very enjoyable and supportive and thanks to them they taught me how to stay focused in the workplace and I became a very productive worker for them and it taught me skills I wish to apply when looking for work going forward

Very unorganized with a lot of people employed that do not need to work there

If people wonder where their tax dollars are going, unfortunately HHS is one of them. They spend money at an amazing rate just to keep the budge for the following year. However, from what I saw the money being spend was very wasteful. Also, there are about 3 or 4 people that do the same job and always use the term "we are all very busy" even though most time is spent chatting with others. Overall I was very disappointed to see what occurs on the business side of a hospital especially when the medical side is struggling to make end meet.

Poor management. Broken promises.

They do not value employees opinions. Never any follow through on promises made. Employees are terrified of upper management. Even though an "open door" policy exists, if you show up at the door, you are met with a very dirty scowling face. Did not really understand how incredibly toxic the environment is until I started working elsewhere. Very, very low morale. Would never recommend to anyone.

Pros

Health benefits are good

Cons

Just about everything

Drug dispensing and civa compounding

I have worked at multiple sites at Hamilton Health Sciences, including the Children's Hospital and the Henderson hospital. I have worked many rotations including the Operating Room.

Former employee of over 20 years great coworkers

Management and staff in senior positions tend to I think that stuff beneath them or different positions are not all equal members of the same team Every member of the team is just as important as the other as the job could not be completed without everyone focusing on the same task

Pros

Salary and benifits

Cons

Not flexable schedules

Great place to work

Hamilton Health Sciences is a great place work and offers ample opportunities for professional growth and development. HHS supports staff who are pursuing continuing education. There are also many in house education programs at no cost.

Environmental Aide

A great place to work if you enjoy working in health care. Friendly staff for the most part. Busy atmosphere with Doctors and Nurses. Good opportunity to grow in my career.

Option of picking up extra shifts.

12 hour shift which ran 24 7. I learned patience in dealing with demanding clients. Learned how to take control of situations. The hardest part was dealing with anxious clients in stressful emergent situations. Very much enjoyed colleagues and as I was working part time had the option of picking up extra shifts if desired.

Pros

Free parking

Cons

Long hours

Fun workplace, disappointing management

Great place to work when wanting to advance career. Management is extremely close with specific people employed there so creates a conflict of interest when trying to resolve issues. Management will record conversations without your knowledge and state they legally can as per the Criminal Code of Canada and submit it to HR to put on your file whether it’s a positive or negative interaction. Team Lead lacked understanding and rational of the position. Overall, Hamilton Health Sciences as a whole is a fantastic organization with room for advancement and ongoing education. The security department lacks many essentials to function properly as it is lead by very misguided management.

Pros

Awesome career advancement opprtunities

Cons

Management lacks understanding of job itself

Good work place with some cons

As someone who was working a min wage job then coming to join Hamilton health sciences its like I struck gold most jobs you start new in this company you start as on call, no garenteed hours. Most jobs will start 22~23 an hour + 14% which puts you at 26 an hour. (the 14% is if you are on call) The jobs will have you working hard for your money, jobs like porting, cleaning, delivering mail, doing trades in the hospital, plumbing, construction etc working in the kitchen its a decent place for someone with no education and wants to make money and chill back Now the cons If you have a family and need hours this place might not be for you because like I mentioned before there's no garenteed hours you might be called in for 8 hours this week then 40 the next and no shifts for a whole week The managers arnt the and people LOVE TO GOSSIP. People love drama there everyone knows each other and talks bad about each other, I myself am porter I just deliver fresh towels and linen to wards and nursing stations and take the dirty linen down the basement, I transport patients to surgery and delivery equipment to where it needs to go Overall I would prob rate this place 7/10 good money good hard decent work but the people at certain hospitals make it awful, they talk bad and they love gossip they call in last minute and play games, you know the usual politics at a place, People love to pretend they work hard when they dont and love to complain.

Workplace Cultre

There was an apparent separation between certain employees and how they treated others, regardless of job seniority. Management did not treat everyone equal.

Poor management and workplace culture

Poor workplace culture as they are very understaffed for the amount of work that needs to be done and patients deserve better care. Did not feel heard as an employee when bringing concerns to superiors. Complete disregard for availability when scheduling.
