It's all politics at HHS. It's more about who you know and who likes you. Management has their favorites. You will not advance here. HR department is corrupt. Some staff are miserable as they've seen alot of cutbacks and changes and not for the good. The Hospital itself is not clean. Patient care no longer exists and it's unfortunate as it's outta our hands. My coworkers are what keep me going everyday.

No lack of work here! For nurses, scheduling is often difficult or unaccommodating unless you have built up good seniority.

Almost always a full patient load with lots of extra work to do. Management is ok, but they are also struggling with a large workload. We are all trying to figure out how to manage our time but often seem understaffed. People are really nice.

Pros

Can transfer between sites and positions and keep seniority. As most hospitals, HOOPP is offered to health care employees.

Cons

Bedside nursing staff have long hours, short staffed and often feel powerless to change things.

Being on call at the beginning is very stressful on your mindset.

If you’re regular part time, you have the option to pick up full time hours however will not know your schedule u til a few days prior. You can decline shifts and the union makes it hard for them to do much but they play favourites even tho scheduling is supposed to go by seniority.

On call is very stressful until you get regular part time, but even then it’s stressful not knowing your exact income.

Hardly fully staffed anymore. Morale at an all time low with the current climate. Management could do more to boost morale. Always running into supply issues ie styrofoam cups, vacutainers, IV fluids etc. Only bright thing these days are the people you work with depending on who they are.

There is a lot of room for learning and growing as a nurse. There is always ongoing learning and new opportunities. The staff is friendly and welcoming.

Organization feels aimless.

No obvious or cohesive plan for the organization. Challenging decisions seem to be avoided and heavy focus on optics. Conflicting initiatives constantly taking place at the same. Constant micromanaging of small stuff while obviously glaring issues ignored.

Fast paced place to work

There are many departments to choose from, most of them are moderately stressful but there are a few areas that are very stressful. Sufficient staffing is a struggle for a large number of areas, as is the case in healthcare everywhere. This does create a trickle effect that can increase the stresses and decrease your work - life balance.

Toxic work place

Too much at once. Need a new CEO that cares about people. More worried about politics than his own organization and people. Many good people that aren’t acknowledged for their work and bullies promoted. No priorities. Raising concerns punished.

Strong Job Security

It’s corporate health care. There are good areas and those less desirable. There are good lines and lines that can be toxic. A good manager and a good line can buoy you up against the Covid storm of stupid family members, but the reverse is also true. I have experienced more good assignments than bad...so that’s good.

A great place to work in IT. It is a head of it's time in some areas and very slow in others. HITS has a work at home policy that has been in for for over 10 years as part of it's pandemic planning so Covid 19 was merely a bump for most staff except now need to spend 5 days working remotely versus 1. Also the department is involved on going QA and have a couple of parties a year and regular(monthly) full department meetings . On the slow side it is a government agency and simple procurement tasks can take weeks to get approved and completed.

The work is easy, can be a bit emotionally draining. The environment isn't very good and management is very hard to work with. The money is really good and benefits are great if you manage to get full time position. Most people work as part- time and pick up shifts, most of the part-timers get full time hours.
