Work Sucks

It was apparent before covid19…..now it’s very apparent…..no work life balance. The corporation does not support their staff, they keep dumping more work on top of the work you’re already struggling to do. They don’t listen to staff regarding anything and are just out to make HHS look like a desirable place to work. Benefits are mediocre considering what you pay for and the fee rates have gone up 9% this year, but haven’t changed what’s offered or covered. Wish our pay went up 9%!!! After working for this corporation for over 15 years, my pay has increased minimally, $5 difference resulting in a $0.33 (33 cents/year/hour)

Amazing learning opportunity

Great place to conduct research. Supportive environment with lots of resources and opportunities. Amazing facilities and great work/life balance. Had a great time

Na

Loved working here until the pandemic when they fired everyone for making a person choice on our own health and safety. Don't feel safe being pressured to do something against my own will and judgement

Good!

Good place to start. Trainings are provided. But scheduling is not a good deal. wage is a bit too low for the workload. Though there are lots of overtime opportunity.

Benefits, Pension and wages

I have worked here for years and love the area I work in now but long time to get here and the wages are not great. Get paid better other places. Just wish the pay wages where higher for the amount of time you work hard and crazy and no work life balance

Pros

benefits and pension

Cons

long hours

Fast-paced place to work

I would recommend HHS if you enjoy working in a fast-paced environment and enjoy face-to-face contact with out-patients. Good work-life balance. Unionized environment so seniority is everything if you want to move to another position. Overall positive experience.

Pros

no overtime, good work-life balance

Cons

some areas are very fast-paced

Short staffed

Short staffed constantly. People never stay, it’s hard for management to keep up with the hiring process so I don’t blame them but the higher ups need to see how hard they are actually working us for such little pay

Pros

Lots of overtime available

Cons

Long hours

Excellent place for work if you are starting your career

Learned a lot from this hospital as a starting registered nurse. they provided everything that I needed in order to start with my career. People are kind and will help you all the way.

Great Organization

Great inclusivity initiatives, opportunities for learning and growth, opportunity for advancement. Hopefully will continue opportunities for remote work for admin and corporate, post-pandemic.

Lots of opportunities

lots of area to grow and experience different specialties. lots of different online trainings you can take, if you really like change they have a float pool of nurses you can work in and go to different units everyday.

New grad

being here for a short time, if you are a new grad its a good place to start, you're able to transfer to various sites around HHS depending on your manager.

Pros

Good Team

Good place for work

good place and fair payment but you can't imagine a higher level career path. There is no chance to advance in your career. No training or encourage you to learn new things

Great company

You can have a career here but with the never ending Covid pandemic staff are stressed and burned out. Good company though and lots of opportunities in other areas

Pros

Great pay

Cons

Understaffed

No lack of work here! For nurses, scheduling is often difficult or unaccommodating unless you have built up good seniority.

Almost always a full patient load with lots of extra work to do. Management is ok, but they are also struggling with a large workload. We are all trying to figure out how to manage our time but often seem understaffed. People are really nice.

Pros

Can transfer between sites and positions and keep seniority. As most hospitals, HOOPP is offered to health care employees.

Cons

Bedside nursing staff have long hours, short staffed and often feel powerless to change things.

Good Workplace to work for

Its a great organization to work for; people are friendly and the environment is welcoming. Staff and management are professional and great to talk to.

Pros

Good pay, good benefits

Cons

Long hours, stressful

With the current climate not always a great place to work.

Hardly fully staffed anymore. Morale at an all time low with the current climate. Management could do more to boost morale. Always running into supply issues ie styrofoam cups, vacutainers, IV fluids etc. Only bright thing these days are the people you work with depending on who they are.

Cons

- constant supply issues, - constant staffing problems ie 4 on nights, - at times not feeling supported by management, - not getting paid near were we should be

Fast paced place to work

There are many departments to choose from, most of them are moderately stressful but there are a few areas that are very stressful. Sufficient staffing is a struggle for a large number of areas, as is the case in healthcare everywhere. This does create a trickle effect that can increase the stresses and decrease your work - life balance.

Great Place

great place to find and build what you are good at. Fosters growth .. only bad thing they depend and push having letters behind your name instead of hiring qualified people who have been doing the jobs longer and know better the role needed. Not everything should be about education

high stress levels

The Hamilton Health Sciences has become a very stressful environment to work at. It was very difficult to maintain a balance home and work life. Now with the Covid 19 virus, the stress levels are over the top.
