Mediocre Management and Organization

Management making decisions without having staff input. Many positions that are not physician or nursing aren't recognized as much. Benefits not great considering how much we pay into them.Fair pay compared to other hospitals in the GTHA.

Work Sucks

It was apparent before covid19…..now it’s very apparent…..no work life balance. The corporation does not support their staff, they keep dumping more work on top of the work you’re already struggling to do. They don’t listen to staff regarding anything and are just out to make HHS look like a desirable place to work. Benefits are mediocre considering what you pay for and the fee rates have gone up 9% this year, but haven’t changed what’s offered or covered. Wish our pay went up 9%!!! After working for this corporation for over 15 years, my pay has increased minimally, $5 difference resulting in a $0.33 (33 cents/year/hour)

Good!

Good place to start. Trainings are provided. But scheduling is not a good deal. wage is a bit too low for the workload. Though there are lots of overtime opportunity.

Benefits, Pension and wages

I have worked here for years and love the area I work in now but long time to get here and the wages are not great. Get paid better other places. Just wish the pay wages where higher for the amount of time you work hard and crazy and no work life balance

Pros

benefits and pension

Cons

long hours

Decent

Pay was decent, Vax mandate ruined a lot of careers. A lot of people we're fired based on a medical decision. No one seemed to care, Union has been slow to represent.

Pros

once a year free small coffee....

Cons

Vax mandate - Mask Mandate - no free parking - costly food options - No perks

Short staffed

Short staffed constantly. People never stay, it’s hard for management to keep up with the hiring process so I don’t blame them but the higher ups need to see how hard they are actually working us for such little pay

Pros

Lots of overtime available

Cons

Long hours

You cant have your cake and eat it to

You are not guaranteed any hours and you are not supposed to get a second job. Not offered hours to pick up all that often however during the interview this is not what they tell you. You do not work with your coworkers, you are competing directly with them.

It's okay, salary increase required to meet cost of living

Overall, this is a good company to work for. Management in my department is good however other department could benefit from a major shift. Salaries need a major adjustment to coincide with the cost if living increase in Hamilton and jobs that can be done remotely should stay that way.

Overall alright organization

Fair pay compared to other organizations (but hardly enough to live on your own in Hamilton though) and generally good ability to pick up more hours, even for casual or part time employees. Alright benefits or good lieu pay instead of benefits if you aren't regular PT or FT. Good job security since many positions within HHS are unionized. However there is little or no room for advancement within the organization depending on your role. Good pension available for all staff. Depending on your unit, being a rehabilitation therapist often comes with some abuse from patients which is accepted as part of the job, especially in ABI. Since the pandemic staff moral has decreased significantly, but overall it is still an alright place to work regardless.

Pros

Good lieu pay instead of benefits, good pension, Fair shift distribution, little pressure to pick up overtime -however it is often offered.

Cons

often a lack of action from management when issues or improvements are brought up, little room to move up within the organization, have to pay for parking or walk far to get free street parking, no performance based raises or bonuses (all unionized)

Best Job Ever

This Is by far the best job I ever had. The pay is exceptionally competitive and rewarding. It does not have the burnout effect of other hospital umbrella Corps.

Pros

Pay

Cons

None

Terrible management.

Management completely out of touch with reality. At HHSC, with 13,000 employees, you really ARE just a number!Management is constantly changing their minds and endless procedures and policies as a result. Much of what they do is to present good optics. Staff morale is low and they treat staff terribly. They pretend to stand for "respect" and "caring" but it's all virtue-signaling.Attempt to be "diverse" and "inclusive", but only if you agree with their narrative.

Pros

Great benefits.

Cons

Too big to care about you.

Good Workplace to work for

Its a great organization to work for; people are friendly and the environment is welcoming. Staff and management are professional and great to talk to.

Pros

Good pay, good benefits

Cons

Long hours, stressful

Being on call at the beginning is very stressful on your mindset.

If you’re regular part time, you have the option to pick up full time hours however will not know your schedule u til a few days prior. You can decline shifts and the union makes it hard for them to do much but they play favourites even tho scheduling is supposed to go by seniority.

Pros

Good pension, and pay

Cons

On call is very stressful until you get regular part time, but even then it’s stressful not knowing your exact income.

Toxic work place

Too much at once. Need a new CEO that cares about people. More worried about politics than his own organization and people. Many good people that aren’t acknowledged for their work and bullies promoted. No priorities. Raising concerns punished.

Pros

Benefits and pension plan

Cons

Toxic culture.

Great place to work and wonderful team!

HHS is a great place to work. Strong leadership team and great colleagues across clinical and non-clinical areas. Healthcare environment is of course challenging, but we work with a lot of inspiring people who really care about the community and patients we serve.

Pros

Salary, benefits, team, workplace culture, patient focus

General Hospital

The work is easy, can be a bit emotionally draining. The environment isn't very good and management is very hard to work with. The money is really good and benefits are great if you manage to get full time position. Most people work as part- time and pick up shifts, most of the part-timers get full time hours.

Pros

Good Money

Cons

Bad management

Typical challenges of a healthcare facility

Healthcare is both a great, rewarding environment and a scary, volatile environment due to constant budget concerns. I continue to work at HHS and I hope to continue to do so until retirement

Pros

Acceptable salary range

Cons

Fear of job loss due to budget constrains
