Unappreciated and overworked

Staff is overworked, usually understaffed as everyone is burnt out regardless of their position. Management gives no recognition for a job well done. Managers are robots with no personality. You are not an individual there, you’re just a number.

Pros

Most co-workers are supportive

Cons

Missed breaks, short staffed, favouritism and nepotism

Not valued

You are literally just a number and not valued for what you do. Staff tend to be very clicky and rather than support one another, back stab. Management is no better.

Mediocre Management and Organization

Management making decisions without having staff input. Many positions that are not physician or nursing aren't recognized as much. Benefits not great considering how much we pay into them.Fair pay compared to other hospitals in the GTHA.

It's all Politics

It's all politics at HHS. It's more about who you know and who likes you. Management has their favorites. You will not advance here. HR department is corrupt. Some staff are miserable as they've seen alot of cutbacks and changes and not for the good. The Hospital itself is not clean. Patient care no longer exists and it's unfortunate as it's outta our hands. My coworkers are what keep me going everyday.

Pros

Hoop

Cons

Lots

Great staff, horrible management

The nurses care for each other, great team work. Management however is toxic, no support and no appreciation. So many nurses are leaving for this reason, and the corporation is extremely short on nurses, no retention.

People can be awful

The place as a whole is decent to work. Not all staff are nice but a good chunk of them are, not all managers are nice but a good chunk are, it honestly comes down to you and who you are. Don't get my wrong they're some great employees but you'll also have your bad apples. Just be true to yourself and don't let anyone walk all over you!!

Pros

Great co workers, some great managers, some patients are great

Cons

Always short staffed, you have to pick up the slack if someone calls in, management not always appreciativr when you go above and beyond

Work Sucks

It was apparent before covid19…..now it’s very apparent…..no work life balance. The corporation does not support their staff, they keep dumping more work on top of the work you’re already struggling to do. They don’t listen to staff regarding anything and are just out to make HHS look like a desirable place to work. Benefits are mediocre considering what you pay for and the fee rates have gone up 9% this year, but haven’t changed what’s offered or covered. Wish our pay went up 9%!!! After working for this corporation for over 15 years, my pay has increased minimally, $5 difference resulting in a $0.33 (33 cents/year/hour)

Good if in union or management

Heavy on administration which reduces service for patients and funding for much needed beds, staff etc. Too many managers compared to workers. Job security for admin or health staff if unionized. Wages are good.

Pros

Not stressful

Cons

Rigid job description

Very bad management

Very very toxic work environment. Lots of gossip and scrutiny amongst co workers and management. I would not recommend working here for long just grab some experience and take it somewhere else. People that have been here 15 plus years in particular tend to be controlling and toxic towards staff members and like to GOSSIP a lot like high school bullies.

Pros

22.50 for a security job

Cons

No paid breaks

Ok to work here

I am Just a new employee but my experience for the most part has been good. My co workers have been very helpful and supportive. I don't usually see management unless there's a problem.

Short staffed

Short staffed constantly. People never stay, it’s hard for management to keep up with the hiring process so I don’t blame them but the higher ups need to see how hard they are actually working us for such little pay

Pros

Lots of overtime available

Cons

Long hours

Discriminatory

Policies in place have terminated many qualified health care professionals when it was already running short staffed. Very irresponsible and terrible leadership.

Culture was inclusive and management was fair and open

I felt that the management was fair and encouraging. The team was very helpful. Difficult onboarding with Covid, and staff working remotely. There is lots of support and opportunity for growth.

It's okay, salary increase required to meet cost of living

Overall, this is a good company to work for. Management in my department is good however other department could benefit from a major shift. Salaries need a major adjustment to coincide with the cost if living increase in Hamilton and jobs that can be done remotely should stay that way.

Overall alright organization

Fair pay compared to other organizations (but hardly enough to live on your own in Hamilton though) and generally good ability to pick up more hours, even for casual or part time employees. Alright benefits or good lieu pay instead of benefits if you aren't regular PT or FT. Good job security since many positions within HHS are unionized. However there is little or no room for advancement within the organization depending on your role. Good pension available for all staff. Depending on your unit, being a rehabilitation therapist often comes with some abuse from patients which is accepted as part of the job, especially in ABI. Since the pandemic staff moral has decreased significantly, but overall it is still an alright place to work regardless.

Pros

Good lieu pay instead of benefits, good pension, Fair shift distribution, little pressure to pick up overtime -however it is often offered.

Cons

often a lack of action from management when issues or improvements are brought up, little room to move up within the organization, have to pay for parking or walk far to get free street parking, no performance based raises or bonuses (all unionized)

Horrible toxic culture

Horrible and toxic work culture. Management are selfish; they have a complete lack of respect for front line workers. Minimal support. Front line staff are burnt out, moral is low.

Good place to work

Good place to work, be prepared to learn a lot of medical terminology depending on what department you’re in. Management may give you a pat on the back instead of solving any issues.

Terrible management.

Management completely out of touch with reality. At HHSC, with 13,000 employees, you really ARE just a number!Management is constantly changing their minds and endless procedures and policies as a result. Much of what they do is to present good optics. Staff morale is low and they treat staff terribly. They pretend to stand for "respect" and "caring" but it's all virtue-signaling.Attempt to be "diverse" and "inclusive", but only if you agree with their narrative.

Pros

Great benefits.

Cons

Too big to care about you.

No lack of work here! For nurses, scheduling is often difficult or unaccommodating unless you have built up good seniority.

Almost always a full patient load with lots of extra work to do. Management is ok, but they are also struggling with a large workload. We are all trying to figure out how to manage our time but often seem understaffed. People are really nice.

Pros

Can transfer between sites and positions and keep seniority. As most hospitals, HOOPP is offered to health care employees.

Cons

Bedside nursing staff have long hours, short staffed and often feel powerless to change things.
