Benefits, Pension and wages
Registered Practical Nurse (Current Employee) - Hamilton, ON - 17 January 2023
Indeed featured review
The most useful review selected by IndeedI have worked here for years and love the area I work in now but long time to get here and the wages are not great. Get paid better other places. Just wish the pay wages where higher for the amount of time you work hard and crazy and no work life balance
Pros
benefits and pension
Cons
long hours

Great staff, horrible management
RN (Current Employee) - Hamilton, ON - 21 July 2023
The nurses care for each other, great team work. Management however is toxic, no support and no appreciation. So many nurses are leaving for this reason, and the corporation is extremely short on nurses, no retention.

Good!
Registered Nurse (Current Employee) - Hamilton, ON - 18 February 2023
Good place to start. Trainings are provided. But scheduling is not a good deal. wage is a bit too low for the workload. Though there are lots of overtime opportunity.

Amazing place and people to work with
Registered Practical Nurse (RPN) (Current Employee) - Hamilton, ON - 27 January 2023
Amazing place to work, culture and support all the time. Managers are great, lots of learning opportunities and multiple departments to work. Nice Organization who supports Internationally Educated Nurses.

Overworked and underappreciated
Registered Nurse (Former Employee) - Hamilton, ON - 13 January 2023
Total disregard for the medical privacy of staff and personal decisions staff members make regarding their own bodies. They clearly didn't care for the quality of care either, since they preferred to fire experienced and qualified medical staff and remain short-staffed but "immune" from covid than to have adequate staff levels.
Pros
Plenty of hours available as well as overtime and opportunity to work in wide range of settings
Cons
Disregard to personal medical information of staff members, efforts of staff who go above and beyond are not appreciated

Short staffed
Registered Nurse (Current Employee) - Hamilton, ON - 28 November 2022
Short staffed constantly. People never stay, it’s hard for management to keep up with the hiring process so I don’t blame them but the higher ups need to see how hard they are actually working us for such little pay
Pros
Lots of overtime available
Cons
Long hours

Good start
Registered Practical Nurse (Current Employee) - Hamilton, ON - 27 August 2022
HHS is a good place to start working and building yourself as a nurse. The only thing i like working in HHS are the nurses, HCAs, and allied health members that i get to work with.

Excellent place to work
Registered Nurse - Nursing Resource Team (Former Employee) - Hamilton, ON - 17 April 2022
This is a wonderful place to work with highly skilled staff. I enjoyed the teamwork and was proud to be part of this team. Being part of the nursing resource team really opened my eyes to the number of learning opportunities at this hospital.

New grad
Registered Nurse (Current Employee) - Hamilton, ON - 15 April 2022
being here for a short time, if you are a new grad its a good place to start, you're able to transfer to various sites around HHS depending on your manager.
Pros
Good Team

Horrible toxic culture
Registered Nurse (RN) (Current Employee) - HGH - 12 April 2022
Horrible and toxic work culture. Management are selfish; they have a complete lack of respect for front line workers. Minimal support. Front line staff are burnt out, moral is low.

Great staff & teamwork (depends on unit)
Registered Nurse (Current Employee) - Hamilton, ON - 5 March 2022
Nurses willing to help one another, including new hires. However, this depends on the unit. Short staffed on many units, like many other hospitals in Ontario during this pandemic.

McMaster OR is a great place to work but the Organization does not value its employees
RN (Former Employee) - McMaster Children's Hospital - 4 March 2022
Loved working in the Operating Room at McMaster. So honestly, I'd give it a 4.5. The Paediatric OR has some excellent, positive and energetic staff and the majority of the staff (Nurses, Doctors) are great team-players with a common goal to provide great patient care and have a great day doing it. If you love the OR but aren't one for daily trauma cases, this is the place for you! Unfortunately the organization itself is very impersonal and does not recognize when its staff go above and beyond (rated 3). They are not respectful of staff members schedules (especially during the pandemic). Any (and all) vacation requests may be denied and schedules are subject to change due to "needs of the department" . They try to provide notice but if you're low on seniority you may end up not having a choice (ex. being assigned call). The Master Schedule is not followed well so it's best to just wait till 6 weeks for scheduled time to be posted before you make plans. You may choose to take on additional projects for quality improvement or personal growth but the organization is far enough removed that these things are not recognized. Also, please be mindful of the potential of redeployment with inadequate training (pandemic specific). TLDR: MUMC OR has a positive culture and is a great place to work but the organization is impersonal and does not value its employees.

No lack of work here! For nurses, scheduling is often difficult or unaccommodating unless you have built up good seniority.
Registered Nurse (Current Employee) - Hamilton, ON - 1 February 2022
Almost always a full patient load with lots of extra work to do. Management is ok, but they are also struggling with a large workload. We are all trying to figure out how to manage our time but often seem understaffed. People are really nice.
Pros
Can transfer between sites and positions and keep seniority. As most hospitals, HOOPP is offered to health care employees.
Cons
Bedside nursing staff have long hours, short staffed and often feel powerless to change things.

With the current climate not always a great place to work.
Registered Nurse (Current Employee) - Hamilton, ON - 12 January 2022
Hardly fully staffed anymore. Morale at an all time low with the current climate. Management could do more to boost morale. Always running into supply issues ie styrofoam cups, vacutainers, IV fluids etc. Only bright thing these days are the people you work with depending on who they are.
Cons
- constant supply issues, - constant staffing problems ie 4 on nights, - at times not feeling supported by management, - not getting paid near were we should be

Low staffing
