Can be difficult to move up.

Can have unfair hiring practices. Can be difficult to move up. I have been with the for over 13 years and I am still an occasional teacher. Sometimes it was my fault for not putting in a 100% effort to advance in my career, but over the years I have witnessed some unfair hiring practices.

Not what it used to be

I loved helping children in need and at one time that is what I felt I was doing HCDSB. The school board is more concerned with making parents happy and avoiding lawsuits for any real learning to go on. I really feel accountability gas gone out the door.

Very low wages, low vacation, good managers

Very good managers but culture can be strict. Wages are extremely low. Vacation is very low. Job security due to the union. Good benefits. Only work here if you need benefits. No room for advancement.
