Fast paced!

Indeed featured review

The most useful review selected by Indeed
Not a bag place to get an idea of what's expected for a fresh graduate but workload can be heavy and not much work-life balance. Lots of turnovers as well.

Pros

Free lunch

Cons

long hours

Horrible Employer

This has got to be the worst employer in history! I only stay because of my passion and dedication to thoroughbred horseracing in BC. The work place is toxic and I don't know of any other employee who is not in a management who would disagree with me.

Pros

The view.

Cons

To many to list.

The tide is Turning at this organization

Let's not kid ourselves this organization had many issues in the past with work/life balance etc. etc. However it is going through a complete 180. There is a very strong new HR team in place doing all the right things to ensure the employee experience is a great one. It will take some time but I for one have bought in and will work to make it one of the best places around. Sometimes complaining is not enough and action is required. And right now there are people at the top willing to listen to ensure things are made right.

Forgotten department

Some departments are forgotten and undervalued. If you are not generating revenue, you are not given the opportunity to advance your title and salary. Great people with great mindset as management but narrow minded executives that leaves a bad taste.

Pros

Hospitality culture is fun if you are in FOH/ customer facing

Cons

Never ending tasks, underpaid, no recognition to departments achievements

Good place to work, but bad hours

Overall not a hard job. Hours are the worst part of the job.It will take you a while to get the shifts everyone covets (weekend's off and early day shifts).

Lazy Hiring Managers

If you apply for a position, good luck getting hired if you aren't glued to your phone 24/7. Most of their casinos (RiverRock, Elements Surrey) will only call you once, and WON'T leave a voicemail. As someone who works full-time in an environment where I have to lock up my cellphone due to security concerns, it has been a very frustrating experience trying to start a career at this company. Other gaming corporations have much more modern hiring practices.

Avoid working in Human Resources

- Avoid working at this organization- No work life balance - No hybrid model to work from home- Required to work at the office 90 percent of the time, work from home is impossible- Disorganized processes and job tasks not clear - Expected to work for work OT without compensation- High turnover rate in Human Resources department - No promotions, fast paced, and competitive- Favoritism, overworked, high level of micromanagement- No job security in the HR department, consistently downsizing and terminating staff -

Very stressful office environment

Overworked and underpaid; hugely stressful and little support. Poor and confused management. Corporate office has little idea of what happens at the site level.

Pay is a joke

Wage increases are non-existent. They tell you year after year that "they're looking into it" and when you finally get a "raise" it's cents. IF IT DOESN'T KEEP UP WITH INFLATION AND THE ADDED WORK OF BEING UNDERSTAFFED THEN IT IS NOT A RAISE!

Cons

Pay, graveyard shifts

Flamboro Downs Ltd.

Do not work here. Management only cares about themselves and they enjoy firing people. After firing someone the department manager and HR staff usually laugh and chat about it with security personnel. Terrible training with no respect for having other qualifications. 0/10

Just a job but good benefits if full time

Poor management after company was purchased. Firing left and right. They let go great supervisors for no reason just because they could. People that had been there since the beginning, and knew the place inside and out were just walked out with no explanation. And now after the pandemic and restrictions lifted they are being cheap, working with a skeleton crew, avoiding calling everyone back to work. Casino employees have it the worst as they will be the last to get called back after lay offs.

Pros

gift at christmas/benefits

Cons

Rude customers to deal with

All Work No Life

Terrible hours, rate of pay and company cutting corners at every turn. The union does not represent the workers like it was voted in to do. Sad state of affairs as cross work is happening despite the grievances filed. Most supervisors there are not qualified to do their job let alone supervise other departments. It's hard to work there and stay positive as it is a pretty sick environment with so many patrons mad at losing all the time. The gifting brings a whole other group of non gamblers to the site which causes issues, especially if they don't get their coupons on time. Pre COVID it was terrible, during COVID was a joke as minimal staff expected to do their position plus multiple other roles without compensation. After COVID has been worse... No accountability and barely a supervisor available to address the issues with computers and patrons.

Pros

Free water from the water cooler

Cons

Long, stressful, non supportive shifts

Very Difficult Work/Life Balance

Be prepared for a lot of shift work. Company was originally willing to work with you on work/life balance. When I started, there was a mutual understanding with management where if I worked a less desirable shift, they'd help give me requested days off. This has been completely eliminated. You need to use vacation days to request any days off.Atmosphere is very demanding and competitive. Rather than giving a promotion to one person, they'll give 3 or 4 people the job and tell them to fight it out. This leads to a very toxic work environment. Turnover is quite high, and they're very anti-union.

Pros

Decent tips

Cons

Shift work, management does not care about you

Depends on department. Toxic work environment. Favoritism. Unprofessional.

Very toxic immature work environment. Dedicated employees get thrown under the rug while people get promoted just due to favoritism. No interest in providing safe work products. Just not a great place to work. Company doesn't care about employees whatsoever.

Fast paced with the ability to move up!

Must have patience if working any frontline role. You will face challenges of people losing their money and needing someone to take it out on. Overall a good job.

Good place to work

Overall it’s an okay place to work the pay is okay. Sometimes it can get difficult when you are short staffed and they require you to work much harder than some of the other staff members. Part-timers get pushed around on all 3 shifts especially the ones that have low seniority.

Pros

Fun place to work Easy at times Can pick up and drop shifts Unionized

Cons

Long hours standing at the doors Short staffed

Great job when casinos are open

The pay is good, but not enough to get by in this expensive city of Toronto. The culture is great and the job itself is a ton of fun. It's a great place to work, it just sucks that covid has resulted in a lot of lay-offs. That's not their fault though.

Pros

Better than most pay, fun job

Cons

24/7/365 environment

Screwed Work-life balance.

Extremely long working hours, no weekends, no holidays. Uncertainty, bad company policies. No team bonding, no sync between the corporate team and site teams.

Cons

Longs hours

Severely understaffed, everyone is overworked with little guidance

Company is focused solely on customers and making a profit. The staff turnover is very high, the company has combined roles and responsibilities to save money causing burnout and mass resignations. The starting pay has lowered $3/hr and it takes up to 3 years to get a dollar increase. Morale is extremely low, managers are unavailable for support, overall terrible company to work for.

Pros

none

Cons

no pay increase, no sick time
