Experience average if you want to experience take a holiday
Lineman (Former Employee) - Rankin Inlet, NU - 17 February 2021
worked in Rankin, staff ok management ok. Double isolation because of covid. if you wanted to go on holidays to see family you have to self isolate on own dime for two weeks. makes it difficult. Winters are long days are extremely short. Very slow paced. wait around wait for trouble calls. Overall work is ok. just understand what getting yourself into. its a different world and covid makes it difficult to travel in and out with out avoiding 2 weeks quarantine. Hardly any overtime anymore another down fall. Money is not there like it use to be.
Pros
Money is ok. Cheap rent. local people friendly. experience local culture
Cons
Covid and travel restrictions, overtime cutbacks, long winters

Good place to work. Helpful advancements
Lots of lack of organization throughout departments. However great job security. Always hiring.. lots of overturning of staff which creates more disorganization. Its another world and not for everyone but it is great if you can have a good work and home life balance.
Pros
Compensation, security
Cons
Lack of organization, constant turn over

Valuable work experience
Public Health Nurse / Community Health Nurse (Current Employee) - Pangnirtung, NU - 2 March 2020
Rich culture and therefore excellent learning environment. Thorough orientation program and accessible opportunities to grow professionally within the organization. Salary is competitive and job security is assuring. Management team is very supportive through preceptorship, mentorship and information sharing. The arctic climate of the communities can be harsh, and may therefore render a level of discomfort when trying to live and there for more than a few months at a time. This is one downside to working and living in Nunavut.

It's complicated
CGS (Former Employee) - Iqaluit, NU - 14 September 2019
The GN has a wide range of jobs. Nurse, finance clerk, teacher. you name it. So difficult to be specific. So instead here are a few tips.
The pay is good, but not as good as it looks, the cost of living is very high, and airfare is thousands of dollars if you want to leave the territory.
A good job is easier to get then decent housing, pay attention.
There is a high rate of turnover. If you show up on time, and are generally competent, the rate of advancement is much faster then provincial governments

Wonderful place to work for
Case Worker (Former Employee) - Iqaluit, NU - 8 July 2018
Good pay and good benefits. It is a wonderful place to work for, You have to be able to put up with the cold.
There are many communities, about 27 but Iqaluit is a very nice place to work for.
Currently, the north is growing rapidly and this is the time to join the great white north of Canada and share in the growth of the Inuit communities and leave a positive mark on the new generation. The Inuit are very friendly and welcoming people.
Pros
Friendly community.
Cons
Too cold

bad managment
Director (Former Employee) - Nunavut - 16 March 2018
Good money but it will be used up in rent and food and airplane tickets to get back down south. So it ends up being the same or worse than working in southern Canada. Really bad management in the department of health and wasteful of money - millions.
Pros
job security
Cons
everything else

Not good
Manager, Quasi Judicial Boards (Former Employee) - Iqaluit, NU - 10 September 2017
Overly bureaucratic, no clear direction, lots of useless fat. Uninformed, inexperienced management. Decent salary, no extensive experience required to start. Benefits and work life balance is adequate, but stressful and inefficient workplace culture.

Ok.
Social Services Statistics, Manager Finance (Former Employee) - Iqaluit and Cambridge Bay - 9 August 2017
Expensive place to live. Gov't subsidized housing necessary. Good experience with Inuit staff but above manager positions seem to be politically motivated.
Pros
Interesting work.
Cons
Frustrating never cracked manager barrier despite advanced skills.
