Good Job
Engineering Co-op Student(Former Employee) (Former Employee) –  St. John's, NL28 June 2018
People are nice and respectful of others. A good place to work. Stable, secure and reasonable pay. At times it became repetitive and boring. The work is not exactly fun so make sure you're being located with people you like.

Engineer Technologist Assistant (Former Employee) –  St. John's, NL6 February 2018
My summer spent at Transportation and Works was a work term experience. I was not only given the opportunity to work in the lab but I was also given a good taste of what happens in the filed.

Good pay Bad Bureaucracy
Customer Service (Former Employee) –  Newfoundland and Labrador13 April 2017
Many good co workers with and good pay. And some good training was provided.

Management and the union to slow to make any decision, even time sensitive issues. Common for management to pass the buck and play games than make a decision.

The people are good, but work environment is poor
Director (Former Employee) –  St. John's, NL12 April 2017
Ongoing cutbacks have increased pressure on remaining statf, as the overall demands to provide a quality service have not declined. Staff continue to do their best, but the resources and supports are just not there

These is significant instability in employment at this time, with little potential for increases in compensation, and limited opportunities for advancement.
Pros
Good people to work with
Cons
Increasing demand for service with limited resoures

Great people and Managers to work with
Accounting Clerk II (Current Employee) –  Corner Brook, NL14 January 2015
This is a great department in regards to the co-workers I have been lucky to have working side by side with me.
The salary and benefits are not so good, salary is low, benefits are expensive and mandatory.
There is not much chance for advancement and I could be bumped by someone with more seniority at any time.
Pros
Great people and Managers, love the work
Cons
Low salary, expensive benefits

Bureaucracy
Engineer (Current Employee) –  St. John's, NL6 January 2015
Pay increases in three steps, automatically every 12 months. This is not a good place for anyone that wants to improve things or takes engineering or science seriously. Many people here hate their jobs and are just waiting to retire, due mostly to bad management attitudes. Layoffs and union bumping are a recurring threat every few years. Everyone at manager and above is non-union and serves the political masters. Most professionals are underpaid by at least 40% and the benefits are rapidly deteriorating, particularly pension. It is not uncommon to have extremely high turn over and many unfilled positions. People that have left are usually delighted that they moved on although they were initially nervous about giving up a relatively secure position. Overall, if you need a job, apply, but unless the culture changes radially, this is no place for people who take pride in their work.
Pros
7 hour work day
Cons
ugly political environment
