Reviews about Pay & benefits for Case Worker at Government Of Alberta
Decent benefits and workplace experience varies by department and team
Caseworker (Current Employee) - Calgary, AB - 17 March 2023
Pros: Decent benefits, flexibility around your own daily schedule, good place to start out as lots of training and mentoring (if there are staff available) Cons: High caseloads, most staff who have been around longer try to help and teach but due to staff shortages and high caseloads, sometimes left to figure stuff out on own. High burn out rate and tough societal issues to deal with.

Govenment is a high stressed fast paced position
Human Services Caseworker (Former Employee) - Peace River, AB - 27 October 2019
Government jobs consist of high case loads and extreme demands on time and energy. The benefits and wages are set higher than the average job, but due to the increased demands and stress levels it is often difficult to manage all that is required.

Horrible. Worst 8 years of my life.
Caseworker (Current Employee) - Calgary, AB - 9 August 2023
What is the best part of working at the company? Poor work environment with high expectations and little pay. Unpaid overtime. Gossip and retaliation if you raise a concern. Only good thing was pension. Union was incredibly supportive however, those working in the government as managers and Sr managers are oblivious to how employees are treated by supervisors. What is the most stressful part about working at the company? No overtime pay. Overworked. High caseload. What is the work environment and culture like at the company? Terrible. Gossip, drama and favouritism. What is a typical day like for you at the company? Start work on time, while others like supervisor and manager trickle in, complete all paperwork and complete necessary home and client assessments. Document into system. Assist others that are lagging.
