Great technical people, well connected global company with a ton of experience in the environmental field. Good work-life balance. Low salary and high expectations on changeability targets.

Except for the flexible hours, you are stack where you are and unless you lick the right behind you might go ahead in your career. You often worry about being laid off. The pay is not competitive at all, there is no bonuses, no gratification of any sort, except for a mug, At least where I am we have free parking, for now.
Pros
flexible hours
Cons
miserable pay

Golder is good place to get your foot in the door of the industry but that's it. I would never suggest anyone to start working there and here's why. Salary was minimal, raises are pretty much obsolete, no work/life balance, no organization, absolutely no employee loyalty, sporadic work hours, barley any training and the list goes on. I can honestly say that I've never worked for such a currupt company in my life.

If you like working long hours, getting minimal pay and lots of stress. Then Golder is the place for you.
Pros
The odd time such would be provided.
Cons
Pretty much everything.

It's a good place to work if the PMs like you otherwise you will be working very little. Its definitely a good place to get your feet wet and you could definitely stay there for a long time

Hr and recruitment hire almost only women to keep salaries low
Hours for recruitment advisors are far too low for working hours expected. Raises are poor. Clique mentality

I enjoyed all aspects of working at Golder. There is room for advancement and being challenged. I felt valued as an employee. The benefits were excellent.

Over worked, under paid and under appreciated. Very little work life balance. Standard benefits. Hard work is not rewarded. You are promoted based on who you know.

I worked here as an Environmental Scientist and Coordinator for a couple of years. There are many advancement opportunities, for those that are wanting to stay with the company in thier stream of work. Pay is good. Benefits were good. Vacation time and Banked Time were fantastic. Overall company culture was second to none. The management team was amazing and really cared about me as a person and employee. Work life balance in a job that spends a lot of time in the field is difficult, but that is the job role and description that one is paid to do and is very fairly compensated for with options of banked OT for extra time off. Expect to work and be challenged. Great team to work with, and overall an amazing company that I really enjoyed working for.

Golder is a good place to work for people who are just out of universities, friendly work culture, but salary wise we don't get paid as much as other companies.

Run! Don’t walk from this place!!

Golder used to be a great place to work but over the last few years it has deteriorated drastically.
If you need family benefits, you’ll be paying a few hundred a month. There’s absolutely no management and raises are almost non existent. Unless you are a principal or associate, you’re treated like garbage. Extremely toxic workplace.
Pros
None
Cons

My typical everyday activity was performing goetechnical field and environmental field work, writing reports and working in soils laboratory. I have learned field methods and techniques, applicable standards and best practices as well as geotechnical and building materials laboratory work. The workplace culture is very strict discipline and accountability. The hardest part of the job is long hours, work related pressure and elements. The sence of pride and belonging to the great big projects was the most enjoyable part of the job.
Pros
Great atmosphere, good pay and benefits, prestige.
Cons
Long hours, weather.

Learned Safe working procedures and worked with highly educated engineers on projects across Canada. I most enjoyed working in beautiful remote locations in areas of the country I would not have been able to visit and enjoy.
Pros

Cons
Out of town work and low salary

This company will work you like a dog. They don't pay well, but you can make it up by working rediculous amounts of OT, which in my opinion is not a very good work/life balance.

The share buying is a huge pyramid scheme where young employees are pressured to buy into shares using their already low salary, without being able to cash out on any realized gains until they leave the company.

I worked very hard at this company and brought in work in my first year there, yet at the end, they refused to raise my salary from the measly $24 to a reasonable $29/hr. They have way too many Ps + As that line their pockets.
Pros
Good experience
Cons
No work life, pay, benefits

Before this company is a good place to work, but since 2014 the company changed and start laying off people and now just hiring contracts. You can learn many things from working in this company but think first your compensation for you work.

The last three years have seen Golder go from nearly 10,000 employees to less than 6,000. Part of this is due to the downturn in the resource sector - but part of it is also because they used to be bloated and now they have cut to the absolute bone. Tough times.

A large group of talented and professional geotechs/environmental scientists are still here. Spending five years under one of these folks would be great for a young grad's career. Alternatively, you could become a cog in the machine where your longevity and success is measured purely and solely by chargeability. If you're considering working here, you should be interviewing your supervisor and asking which one it will be.

Stock program looks great on paper - but dividends only compensate you for the interest you pay to borrow the money to buy the shares. You can't sell any stock or realize any supposed gains in share value until you depart the company. So it becomes a bit of a pyramid scheme.
Pros
Industry leader in geotechnical & environmental, some really talented senior professionals
Cons
Hours billed to client - salary = your value to company

Golder is a good company to work for. They treat their staff with respect and offer decent salaries. The salary+overtime option is very nice. There is a lot of opportunity within the company, especially for those that don't mind working away.
Pros
challenging projects
Cons
career advancement is sometimes difficult with the setup of the company.

Instead of having enough staff they'd rather tell their employees to work 12 hour days and weekends to get the work done. If the pay was decent it wouldn't be so bad but with making $2 above minimum wage its not worth the amount of stress, responsibility, and time that the job requires.

This used to be a good company to work for before they restructured it. They employ as little staff as possible and expect everyone to work more to compensate for it, yet they don't show any kind of gratitude when it comes to raises. Going up 30 cents an hour per year is not enough.
Pros
Cake day once a month
Cons
Low pay, no work/life balance mentality
