Great work environment but low pay
Intermediate drafter (Former Employee) - Calgary, AB - 25 October 2023
It was years ago when I worked in Golder but I still know people that are still there. Currently (2023), there are people working minimum hours, 15 hours per week and not getting paid full time. Work culture is really good, they provide everything to keep the employees happy at work minus the pay though.

Insights into Golder Associates
What people like
- Supportive environment
- Clear sense of purpose
- Ability to learn new things
Poor management and a lack of appreciation.
Civil Technician (Former Employee) - Saskatoon, SK - 15 October 2023
Great co-workers and lots of opportunities to learn. Poor management and a serious lack of appreciation and support make it difficult to move up unless you are an engineer.

Update your WP manual!
Administrative Assistant (Former Employee) - Vancouver, BC - 9 October 2023
Little help available for questions when needed. WP manual outdated and no revisions. Caught several mistakes when reading it. Trainer expects you to know everything very quickly.

Ok work place
Environmental Technician (Former Employee) - Vancouver, BC - 26 September 2023
Great place to start the first consulting job. Can learn solid technical knowledge under management, however will need to focus on your own work-life balance.

Good people and benefits but overworked
Specialist (Former Employee) - Burnaby, BC - 20 April 2023
Enjoyed working as part of a team and my direct supervisor was wonderful and supportive. Workload was unreasonable and staff were overworked most of the time. It because impossible to find work life balance so I decided to leave because I had a young child at the time.

Training and mentorship
Was flat management, a great place to develop a career, supportive senior engineers and management, good mentorship. However, things may be different after aquisition by WSP.

Gain experience quickly
Project Coordinator (Current Employee) - Victoria, BC - 23 October 2022
Not enough time to do everything, along with poor management communication. Sometimes it feels like you have to do more than your actual duties, which is frustrating as the compensation doesn’t match your work.

Jobs at Golder Associates
Lots of engineering related technical knowledge can be gained
Civil Engineering Technician (Former Employee) - Calgary, AB - 9 May 2022
Overall a very good place to work or put your foot into engineering consulting. Big team of senior engineers, engineers and technicians always available to help you. Good client base all over Canada. The management is awesome besides a few. Pay was not the greatest.
Pros
Lots of hours depending on the work contacts
Cons
Working away from town for long periods of time

Productive Working Locations
Civil Technician (Former Employee) - Alberta, Canada - 3 April 2022
Golder Associates is a nice place to start your working career right out of high-school, it has nice people and many nice programs and machinery to learn. The full-time pay is similar to a summer student job position. Also don't expect to get overtime pay when working over your times.

A lot of nice kind and caring people in the organization but unfortunately a lot of chaos with the current merger.
Human Resources Administrator (Former Employee) - Vancouver, BC - 1 March 2022
A very fast paced role perfect for a new graduate to get their feet wet. Pay is a little bit low but there is room for progression in the organization.

Golder is a great place to work with nice people and great work culture. I was given a fair pay for the tasks I was given. The company understands work life balance which is important to me.

Enjoyed the freedom of being my own boss. Extremely disappointed in that they were not willing to transfer me to another office.
Warehouse Coordinator (Former Employee) - Mississauga, ON - 9 November 2021
Left on good terms. Enjoyed the freedom, but did not enjoy the increased workload and very little increase in pay. Upper management did a poor job of supporting new hires.

Collaborative and professional work environment
Drafter (Former Employee) - Mississauga, ON - 8 November 2021
Office has a growth mentality and wants to see you develop in your role and in your career. Was given lots of opportunities to work on new projects and hone my skills.
Pros
mentorship, accommodating, collaborative
Cons
mass firing in times of economic downturn

Awful
Technician (Current Employee) - Kamloops, BC - 27 October 2021
Micromanging is what Golder does best. They will send inexperienced workers to remote sites after watching a few online learning modules which Golder believes is sufficent training. They also wont tell you they expect you to work 12hr days for 14days straight with alternating shifts 6-6 day/night. Also they clain that everyone has the right to refuse work but they will make you feel very pressured and feel bad about refusing work even if you 100% believe it is unsafe
Pros
Laptop/Phone
Cons
All

Productive Workplace
Junior Engineer (Former Employee) - Montreal,Ca - 6 July 2021
Decent workplace culture, I worked in one of their bigger offices and it was an inclusive environment. Manager didn't help me succeed nor did he provide guidance, even when I asked him for some. It did seem as though he was fairly new in the Leader role, so maybe I should cut him some slack? Not quite sure.
Pros
Free lunches
Cons
Lack of mentorship

a good position for civil engineering students who can keep up with physically demanding work.
Field Technician/Soil Compaction Inspector (Former Employee) - Cambridge, ON - 16 March 2021
Nice coworkers and easy to talk to A lot of driving but well compensated for it Physically demanding As a Civil engineering student I found this position to be a great experience to get out in the field and that the skills taught in my program prepared me for anything they asked of me.
