Very poor management and unproductive shop
Mechanic Technician (Former Employee) –  Saskatoon, SK28 November 2018
Completely disconnected from managment . A typical day, you come in get your assignment via e-mail, once your done your lucky if there is anything else to work, on otherwise grab a broom. Shop lacks direction, guys wondering around most of the time looking for work. Stocked parts are very limited, and if you don't order things you need early enough in the day they are just not coming. Lack of diagnostic tools needed to fix equipment, and service information is unavailable. If your hired on for the shop you will most likely start on evenings and there is very little chance your gonna be able to get another shift anytime soon. Company feels very unsure of it self being they are growing so fast. Bad work environment created by management, and I have never felt so much like a number as when I worked here. Very elitist attitude by anyone in management, defiantly think their you know what don't stink, pretty funny considering they haul liquid waste. I would defiantly not recommend if you like feeling like you have accomplished something in your day.
Pros
leaving, techs friendly
Cons
better portion of the job

Management is a joke!!!
former supervisor (Former Employee) –  Acheson, AB26 November 2018
The management are all liars!!! They encourage drivers to falsify paperwork, if a driver misses a bin at a residence and the homeowner calls it in, management will lie to the city of spruce grove and say it wasn't out or it was collected and the resident must have refilled it. The management does not care about safety what so ever. They insist that un roadworthy trucks be pushed out the door to get the job done with no regard for the safety of the drivers or people on the road. They lie to the employees and customers on a daily basis.

Started out as medium company with management that focus on people, but through growth that focus got lost. People were friendly to work with. Position was relocated to Toronto.

Office (Former Employee) –  Calgary, AB29 September 2018
Just horrible. Management hires family members who gossip and make fun of other employees on message boards. No respect for employees. Can be fired without cause. Trucks are constantly broken down and when drivers fall behind because they are overloaded it’s their fault. All they care about is money. Work overtime and left crying most days because of the stress. Working 9+ hours a day was MANDNATORY, on top of weekends and holidays. Pay was decent and benefits were nice but over all would not recommend to other people.

All they care about is working you to death and how much money did you collect......money money money but the pay sucks for all the extra hours put in to do your job.....way under staffed and they don't care just get it done. If you value family time and weekends to yourself don't work here. Always being told take it home......life is to short to live for just work....run away fast and stay away from these guys!!!!

Dispatch/Fleet coordinator/OHS representative (Former Employee) –  Delta, BC30 July 2018
Hard to stay motivated for a corporation that doesn't care about you at all. You're just a number. If you like that and don't mind this kind of work place, then it's a great job.

Hard work
Residential Driver (Current Employee) –  Aurora, ON18 June 2018
The most enjoyable part of the job is being around people that appreciate your hard work. This job is not meant for everyone and so the job has a very high turn around rate when it comes to employees. Overall the people are nice, but the hard labour required for this job makes it very tough for anyone new to stay. Which causes longer hours, more stress, and basically not a lot of time to yourself or your family.
Pros
You can stop for break any time
Cons
Very long hours

Red flag
Operator/Driver (Former Employee) –  Edmonton, AB13 June 2018
Used to work here and leaving was the best thing I ever did! They promise you great opportunities and raises however i had draw the line and quit. I hear the poor person who replaced me is on stress leave for an undetermined amount of time. Do yourself a favour and avoid this place like the plague it is! Safety is a number one priority for gfl as it is the first thing that takes a back seat to get the job done.
Pros
I don’t work here

I wasted 2 years of my life with gfl
