I never met the owner but the managers seem to be scared of him, which leads them to not asking for basic things like a new fire alarm or fixing a broken step. Manager was seemingly nice but hapless and too timid to ask the owner for anything extra to run a department well.
There are many health and safety concerns in the warehouse (which is actually just the upstairs of their other shop down the street).
Many lights don't work, doors are locked from the outside and the fire alarm was on its 'warning beep' for weeks. I really hope nobody gets hurt there.
My colleague was clocking in 9 hour days to get everything done, everyday. The eCommerce job is about 3 jobs in 1. They do not care about their employees safety. As long as it kinda works, they're gonna press on with the same process. I can't imagine they would take the time to improve their system for the better of the employees.
All in all, it was an interesting experience. It was so ridiculous it was actually kinda funny.
