Overwork and Unsafe
eCommerce (Former Employee) –  Toronto, ON28 February 2019
I never met the owner but the managers seem to be scared of him, which leads them to not asking for basic things like a new fire alarm or fixing a broken step. Manager was seemingly nice but hapless and too timid to ask the owner for anything extra to run a department well.

There are many health and safety concerns in the warehouse (which is actually just the upstairs of their other shop down the street).

Many lights don't work, doors are locked from the outside and the fire alarm was on its 'warning beep' for weeks. I really hope nobody gets hurt there.

My colleague was clocking in 9 hour days to get everything done, everyday. The eCommerce job is about 3 jobs in 1. They do not care about their employees safety. As long as it kinda works, they're gonna press on with the same process. I can't imagine they would take the time to improve their system for the better of the employees.

All in all, it was an interesting experience. It was so ridiculous it was actually kinda funny.

Literally the worst place to work and grow.
The only good thing would be the employees and friendships you make, as they all felt the same about the store as a whole. Owners were horrible, and treated staff so poorly. The managers were alright to work with, yet most were extremely negative and fake. The pay structure is horrible, you basically get ripped off, and be prepared to be missing money. Just listen to the reviews and trust that this place is literal garbage.

I was offered a full time role here. When I asked whether my contract would stipulate full time hours, I was told I would only receive shifts based on sales. They ask you to complete a quiz in order to pick up your pay cheque..no thanks :)

The only good thing is you could get experience. The owner and general manager ruin everything. They don't listen to employee. They believe they are the best and everybody should follow them. If you don't follow their rules, you would be fired. And of course there is verbal abuse. The owner is yelling all the time.

Could be a good workplace, but management ruins it
Sales Associate (Current Employee) –  Toronto, ON6 September 2017
The owner is verbally abusive and has become physically abusive in the past. He is a detriment to the store's success as no one who is willing and able to improve the multiple issues can do so due to his discouraging attitude. Staff turnover is incredibly high but the people who do work there are fun and there is a good camaraderie among the staff. I do make decent money for retail, but I don't feel like I have learned much in the time that I've been there. I don't recommend working there.
Pros
good discount, can pick up some Japanese

abusive environment

Cashier and Customer Service (Former Employee) –  Toronto, ON21 December 2016
Driven by a youth culture, GetOutside is a great place to work as a young person. Many of my coworkers had side jobs or other creative outlets.
The management was very easy going, and open to new ideas on how the store can be better. It was very easy to grow in all directions, if you wanted to.

Go ahead and work here if you like being treated with no respect
sales associate (Current Employee) –  toronto, on7 November 2016
Managers do not care about anyone but themselves and also enjoy acting like they own the employees. The owner is borderline verbally abusive . Poor pay structure and ridiculous sales expectations with no room for growth. Managers have their favorites, are passive agressive, vindictive and will most certainly talk behind your back while being fake to your face. do not waste your time applying there

In short, if you enjoy being spoken to and treated like a child while being managed by immature adults, you will love working here

Stock Manager / Sales Associate (Current Employee) –  437 Queen Street West, Toronto, ON28 September 2015
Getoutside Shoes is a very busy store with a heavy workload. Ranging from a heavy customer traffic flow, sales goals and the abundance of incoming shipments, this store has you working hard from the second you time in to when you time out.
Pros
Scheduling is adjustable to the worker
Cons
High expectations, strict managment
