Dominent company in the sector but you may feel like an outsider

Indeed featured review

Just the C-level gets financially compensated during peak years in the mineral exploration cycle and financial rewards do not trickle down to those who truly make the company strong.

Pros

hours are not long

Cons

never felt like part of the decision making inner circle

Terrible management

Lots of micromanaging. Training was at the least okay. Unprofessional communication and no long term future here. Absolutely no work culture and very old school way of management. Don’t see how everyone’s not quit already.

Pros

Nothing

Cons

Bad management, no drinkable water, no work culture, bare minimum pay, uncomfortable work environment, no advancement opportunities, cheap company

Constant monitoring with cameras all over the place.

There is extreme level of nepotism in this private company. During the last 4 years of my stay; 4 capable employees were fired who were all at PHD level with years of proven product development. This was done in favor of a junior engineering staff that can accommodate owner's son. Many good people retired because they did not want to continue with this nonsense. Company lost a huge aircraft hanger and a prestigious building, because a lot of company revenue and government grants were spent on a new R&D team who never produced a single product since their recruitment in 2015.....huge waste of tax payer's money. * During most of my experience there were cameras monitoring staff from every angle. * You are reminded of turning off the lights to washroom or kitchen every time, in order to save energy while the shipping doors are left open for hours during cold winter / hot summer days. * You are reminded of not using milk, as "it is intended only for use with coffee". My manager was force to remind a senior staff about this. * Owner being elderly (85+) can be very stubborn/obstinate. In a few instances he left the engines of his 60s classic cars while inside company storage to prove a point to one of the staff who was suffering from asthma and was complaining about the air quality. * One can spend many hours of over-time to complete a complete various projects on time. I was never acknowledged or appreciated for my hard work. I was never compensated for my over-time. My end-year bonus after 100s of extra hours of work was only $500 ( instead of the typical -

Pros

Decent employees who work hard to earn a living and have lots of knowledge to share

Cons

Lack of appreciation and trust for employees. No performance reviews.

Badly managed company with dangerous working conditions

- Dangerous working conditions, related to helicopters and long drives. You can never be 100% sure that an engineer didn't drop a screw to the helicopter engine (this happened twice in a short period of time), and that you will not have to land in the middle of nowhere or worse just crash. - Pay is below the industry standards and no overtime pay. And even after that they will try their best not pay you what they are supposed to be paying according to the Canadian Employment Laws. - The work-life balance is the worst I've ever seen. 16 or 18 hour working days are not unusual. You can spend 8 weeks in the field and after getting home and being there for just 3 days office can call you asking to return back to work. - Old equipment and no enough people to do proper maintenance. Almost every system has some problems and you will have to fix these problems in the field without proper manuals and with almost no support. - Micromanagement everywhere - Poorly planned projects and bad logistics. This will mean that you will have to drive with fuel and to fuel the helicopter and work very long hours every day - Zero corporate culture - No any safety training or any training at all - Only in this company you can be offered "a promotion" with the decrease in your salary If you want to stay alive and well stay away from this company

Pros

Traveling to some interesting places like Canadian Arctic, Free time on weather days when you can study or look for another job

Good

Lots of changes, but good place to learn about some very interesting technology. The company itself is well-known, so it is widely recognized in the mining industry.

Stay away

What was once a great company is now being run into the ground by senior "management" and the owner. Employee's have always been treated poorly but its @ a all time low. No end in site as the people running this organization have no idea what they are doing or how to manage people. you are just a number to them and once you have outlived your usefulness you will be tossed to the curb without a second thought.

Excellent Company

Weather and daylight conditions meant a lot of waiting to get the perfect set of data, so there was a lot of sitting/waiting/reading/planning time. GIS companies are slowly fading with the incoming drone technologies.

Was a great company to work for.

Typical day at work, started at 5am, one hour commute each way, provided by the company. I was given a lot of trust & responsibility with my position. My manager was not onsite, but a phone call away. I worked on a small team, the position was seasonal, as were most of the projects within the company, yet future projects were always lined up and just around the corner. The hardest part was long shifts, early mornings, yet rotational work where you work six days on and have four off is perfect. The most enjoyable part was working outdoors as well as indoors, provided a perfect balance, and getting to go all over site, switching projects keeps things fresh, nothing gets to stagnant.

Pros

amazing benefits

Cons

sometimes the hours are too demanding, I did 21 days on in a row last winter, resulting in me feeling completely burnt out.
