Completely unpredictable
Head office (Former Employee) - Head office - 15 September 2023
Indeed featured review
The most useful review selected by IndeedWorked here for a couple years and there is no clear direction or plan. No opportunity to advance and no clear goals. Everyone seems to just be flying blind and big decisions are made on a whim.

Disappointing Management and work culture
Cashier (Former Employee) - Panorama Ridge, BC - 25 July 2023
New store leader would make a lot of issues within different departments due to improper communication. Although even before change in leadership company did not treat floor workers respectfully. Any floor employee that would bring up concerns would be met with patronizing remarks. Unhelpful and unmotivating workplace/company that will favor management and profit over employees.
Pros
some health benefits after probationary period
Cons
pay for product of own labour

it's a grocery store
anonymous (Former Employee) - anonymous - 13 May 2023
Not a bad place to work when the store first opened. The environment/culture was very positive and uplifting differentiating from other big chain grocery stores. Unfortunately over time, Just like any business. Corporate decided it was time to start cutting hours and raise gross profit demands to maximize overall gross. This inevitably causes a more negative/toxic work culture. It really feels like everyone has to fight for them self. There's no "team" here. You may be told otherwise. The next week you'll be sat down in the managers office because "x amount of people have spoke to management about you" they won't tell you who of course. 95% of it is rumours, but it doesn't matter. You really have to just put in your work, punch out and go home, don't talk to anyone here because eventually someone will try to throw you under the bus. Please avoid grocery stores overall. I really reccomend avoiding this one as well.
Pros
its a job
Cons
i explained it

Great place to work on the local level
Key Holder (Current Employee) - Peachland, BC - 23 February 2023
On a local level usually, the people you work with are great, my managers have been some of the best bosses I've had and really flexible, especially regarding education or Church. On the other hand corporate like to come up with incredibly stupid policies, and horrible ways of discounting their employees on stuff, if something needs to be fixed in the store you can expect it to be fixed 4-5 years after it breaks. Most likely it's just corporate middle management screwing around and doing things just for the sake of doing things. You'll also never likely see your wage ever go up unless the minimum wage is increased by the government which is to say it doesn't go up at all if you understand basic economics. They take away your benefits and put you on probation if your hours in a week drop below the required full-time hours, even in the slow season where corporate will mandate a cut on hours effectively making you forced to make sure they don't get cut to the point where you lose all your benefits out of nowhere. Also, 0 benefits to working here part-time, you can get a coupon that reduces your $50 purchase by $5, which is 10% off with extra steps. Corporate's biggest flaw is they treat the staff like numbers on a spreadsheet and probably do, they expect 100% efficiency no matter what they will guarantee to treat you like you are a machine so I suggest you work for someplace completely local and has people you can trust directly, since from my perspective corporate is not human
Pros
Great staff and local management, flexible hours
Cons
Corporate people are about as alien as they can get, dumb policies, benefits are overly difficult to keep, you won't get anywhere working here

A fun and supportive workplace!
Talent Acquisition Coordinator (Former Employee) - Whistler, BC - 13 February 2023
GMFG was one of the best companies I ever worked for! From day one they were supportive. The team always reached out to see if I needed help or guidance in any task. The HR team that I worked with was positive, cohesive, fun and caring. They provided so many perks such as sporting event tickets, unlimited office supplies, opportunity for advancement and more!
Pros
Opportunity for advancement, on the job and off the job perks

Collaborative team environment with a side of humour tossed in and all the tea and coffee you can handle.
Head Office (Current Employee) - Burnaby, BC - 10 February 2023
The days are never the same; always a challenge. Post pandemic has the office staff catching up with each other and social committee activities are coming back.
Pros
Family owned business with such a legacy, BC's best retail grocery stores, pride and commitment to the company is evident.
Cons
Retail environment means 7 days a week so the workflow is constant.

Horrible Place to Work.
The work place is beyond toxic. Stay away as far as you can. AWFUL management. I was at the Whistler location, and was of course there because I needed a second Job because, well, Whistler ain't cheap. I regret staying as long as I did.
Pros
The co-workers you'll meet.
Cons
The abusive, toxic, discriminatory practicing bosses.

Worst communication, horrible "team-oriented" environment
Cashier (Former Employee) - Fleetwood, BC - 22 January 2023
Training was rushed and constantly interrupted as if they don't value other people's time. The "team" doesn't care about new hires or their contribution. Zero recognition or feedback when new. Unprofessional behaviour from staff and if you respond being displeased they will start a smear campaign and justify gossiping by saying "everybody here talks". So if you make a mistake they won't ever talk to you, they will talk about you! They will punish you by taking resources away such as removing office supplies, stare to intimidate, and negative indirect communication in hopes you realize it's about you. Grown adults who don't have the professionalism to tell you "hey I know you're new but we don't do that here" It's very clear that so many people that work here have a mindset of "we had to deal with it so you have to, too!" There's a sign in the back that says "Work is a Stage" if you're wondering about their "professional" mission statement. They don't value you, or each other. Pretty sure only simple minds find this behaviour amusing and think it's "ethical". There's no such thing as being a team here like their website advertises, it's simply sink or swim! It's clique-y, so most of them will actively exclude you and not talk to you.
Pros
Possibly the hours
Cons
Toxic work culture

Working in Office (Current Employee) - Burnaby, BC - 21 November 2022
Not a good experience working there, A lot of discrimination from Management in daily working, there's no work, life balance and management expects you to work even on the weekends and be prepared to work on your day off.
Pros
Can't recall any pros
Cons
Extremely toxic culture

Worst manager ever at Fleetwood
Cashier (Former Employee) - Fleetwood, BC - 18 March 2022
Very rude and unfair inequality here. Kind of regret ever meeting the manager but atleast it was an eye opener. The other staff are pretty kind though.
