Indeed featured review
The most useful review selected by IndeedEvery location is different. Some have great cultures, some don't. The overall company is definitely trending downward. Management turnover has led to bad decision making in favour of money instead of people, and patients.

Great corporate culture
Clinical Assistant (Former Employee) - Chilliwack, BC - 24 October 2023
Though I worked very hard and did many extra things beyond my job description, I did not receive the recognition or compensation for my efforts. I felt very over worked and under valued.

Free glasses
Cons
No room to grow

Worst experience at a workplace I've ever had to endure.
Optical clerk (Former Employee) - Miramichi, NB - 1 October 2023
What is the best part of working at the company? Nothing. You work for pennies and are promised the world. The overall company does not show respect to their workers unless they are doctors. What is the most stressful part about working at the company? Management is non existent and the workload is unbelievable for the pay. What is the work environment and culture like at the company? Very toxic and not just the location I worked at. It's a revolving door and always understaffed because of the pay and workload. Workers would cry daily in their car.

Not good to work!
Production Worker (Current Employee) - Delta, BC - 7 September 2023
This place is not good for work if you are in the surfacing department. It is dusty, noisy, and hot. While, the other department are clean and have the same pay for everyone in the Lab!

Very stressful and high turnover
Optical associate (Former Employee) - Cambridge, ON - 8 August 2023
You're expected to do the work of multiple people and get 0 downtime to complete tasks so they continue to pile up and patients wonder why things are taking so long. They have employees that quot because it's so stressful, and then fire you without cause when you are already understaffed. Would not recommend working here at all. Only positive is the employees are very helpful.
Pros
Fellow employees
Cons
Not enough money, always understaffed, very stressful

Great coworkers, sketchy company
Optical Associate (Current Employee) - Toronto, ON - 10 July 2023
The only reason I have not quit this job is because of the relationships I have with my coworkers & patients. This company does not value loyalty or hard workers, and expects staff to go above and beyond while beyond compensated very little to do so. They do not pay competitive wages, and if they continue to lowball staff, then they’re going to be left with incompetent workers. I’m not sure how their products can be so much more expensive than competitors when they pay their staff way less; whose pocket is this going into? Higher up management who don’t even know what it’s like to work in an optometry office or what the demands are?

Over worked & under paid
Pretester (Former Employee) - Grande Prairie, AB - 22 June 2023
Scheduling was a nightmare, pay sucked- the raises were nil. Management rarely heard or listened to concerns of hard working dedicated staff. Colleagues were amazing, management drove good staff away or just refused to hire in general.

Run it's a sinking ship!
Head Office Employee (Former Employee) - Calgary, AB - 14 June 2023
It use to have a great culture but something started to change a couple years ago and now it's all about micro-managing people, lay-offs, no more coaching, lots of talk or words of "good things" but no real "good" actions. Being there makes me feel like they are a sinking ship or they are putting themselves in a position to sell the company. Something is going on for sure and whatever it is, it feels awful. Terrible new head office leadership running everyone ragged.
Pros
Benefits, eye exams
Cons
High stress, toxic, harrassment, micro-management

Good training experience to get my feet wet in vision care; couldn't wait to leave.
Office Administration, Patient Care Coordinator (Former Employee) - London, ON - 19 May 2023
What is the best part of working at the company? The best part of working at this company was the thorough training provided. What is the most stressful part about working at the company? The most stressful part about working for the office I was the poor communications between staff, management and the optometrists. I found that there was misleading information relayed to the office manager. There were times that I was pulled aside about information that was misjudged or untrue. I found out that team members were saying dishonest things behind my back to draw attention away from them, and on to myself. I was a very upbeat, positive, great worker there, and I was basically driven out. What is the work environment and culture like at the company? Very micromanaging. They are not very when referring to patients with english as a second language. I found this very uncomfortable when working there. What is a typical day like for you at the company? Fast paced. This workplace would have been a nicer environment with a different type of management leading. There is alot of multi-tasking and being on your feet as an OA. The pay is very low-grade for the amount of work done in a shift.

Nice co-workers, not a nice company to work for
Optical Associate (Former Employee) - Cambridge, ON - 15 May 2023
You get trained in the optical field but the stress of workload and responsibilities becomes overwhelming, without receiving any recognition other than a cup of coffee once in a while. Not a reliable company.
Pros
Free pair of glasses per year
Cons
Low wage, intensely stressful, not reliable

Fun place to work and great management
Optical Associate (Former Employee) - Alberta, canada - 15 May 2023
I really loved working FYI doctors. Most of the managers within the company are amazing and Super helpful. A few of them not so much. Lots of opportunities to grow within the company!! Willing to help pay for schooling with a commitment to working with a company for longer. Decent hours and competitive pay.

Need a better coaching culture and pay
Optical dispenser (Former Employee) - Lethbridge, AB - 9 May 2023
If pay was better most employees would be alot happier in thier positions. Coaching culture needs to be more positive, but in the end its about money and what the company can bring in. Understaffing creates negative workplace environment and stress.
Pros
Free lunches, gift cards, eyeglasses, ect
Cons
Pay

High turnover rate for employees for good reasons
Optical Assistant (Former Employee) - Cambridge, ON - 9 May 2023
If you like bare minimum training, high stress loads, two faced management and expectations that are not humanly possible … this might be the job for you. The idea of a coaching culture is laughable at best. They care more about The Metrics and not about Patient Care. And don’t make suggestions to improve the clinic, frowned upon.
Pros
You have a Job.
Cons
Expected to do the work of 2-3 people and have your Metrics in the Zone.

Worst experience of my life
Optician (Former Employee) - British Columbia - 7 May 2023
What is the best part of working at the company? There is literally nothing positive about working here. They make you feel like your free pair of glasses every year is a huge bonus but they literally cost the company pennies and make you feel like they’re giving you a $1500 bonus. What is the most stressful part about working at the company? EVERYTHING. Worst experience of my life. Horrifically underpaid. Horrible management. Horribly run from the top down. The “coaching” culture is a joke! “Dr.’s” trying to manage with zero clues on administration and management. The Regional Coaches were a joke. Zero training. The bottom line is that it is all about money and making people at the top rich. What is the work environment and culture like at the company? All about upselling the customer and giving them things they don’t need that are over priced. What is a typical day like for you at the company? Horrible from start to finish. Overworked. Understaffed. Underpaid.

Toxic
Patient Service Representative (Former Employee) - Regina, SK - 17 April 2023
I wouldn’t recommend working here, management is very judgmental. If you live out of town and have to commute while the roads are bad they expect you to be there, if you are very sick with a doctors note, they still expect you to be there. There is little to no training. Only thing management wants is their salary and to go home.
Pros
Hour long lunch, benefits
Cons
Management, toxic environment

Extreme Stress for Low Pay
Optical Associate (Former Employee) - London, ON - 11 April 2023
I left in tears at least once a week; they expect you to do way more than is physically possible. expect walk-ins, scheduled appointments, AND multiple doctors to be bringing you their patients. Not to mention, front desk is always busy so you’re expected to be back up for them as well scheduling appointments, checking people in, answering questions etc

Overworked and underpaid
Associate (Former Employee) - Ontario - 26 February 2023
Good place to work for anyone who is looking to gain experience in the optical field or clinic setting. Coworkers are the only thing that made work fun. Pay isn't nearly enough for the work you do and there's not a lot of support from upper management.
Pros
Free glasses
Cons
Low pay
