Great place to work

The company gives you what you want to accomplish your work. You can make sure that working there, you will have the support from your management. There are few things that can be improved as all organizations.

Efficient, family cultured work environment

Working at FortisBC was a great experience. Very tough process of getting hired on, but would recommend the company to anyone seeking a career in the field of Natural Gas. A typical day at work involves coming in and greeting all the coworkers and management. Also getting the systems open so you can get all software up and running before the beginning of the day. Lots of vigorous work in terms of data entry, but nonetheless very mentally focused work. Hardest part of the job is the unpredictability of your superiors, but overall great company.

Pros

Vacation time off, wage/salary, good work environment

Cons

Lack of communication at times

Great work environment and management. A place to professionally grow and develop with.

Worked here for 2.5 years in a supportive and learning environment. Both management and co-workers were awesome and supportive. The hardest part of the job was being laid off and the most enjoyable part of the job was interacting with colleagues and learning new things. Only downside is that they were re-organizing and streamlining procedures to work in a more efficient manner to not duplicate services, so staff were laid off.

Pros

Team Building Activities

Cons

Job Security - Hired on contract so the job was not secure

Energetic fun place to work

Great work place that provides good work/life balance. The most enjoyable part of the job was reporting to the VP, who was a great mentor. I learned a lot from him, as he provided guidance and feedback.

Always Promised the moon

To many people in human resources, can't get any answers from management /hr in regards to wanting to excel into a different department. To much chitter chatter on the floor, gossip rumours the whole deal. Should be paid better to deal with very difficult customers. They take advantage of keeping you on temp working contracts. The best part of that job was leaving for the day.

Pros

free coffee

Cons

you have to be a puppet.

Would not recommend

I would not recommend this job. Hours change drastically after being hired to include midnight shifts. Your shifts can change daily as a temp. Your life revolves around work.

Pros

none

Cons

constant changing hours, vacations not approved

Excellent Company

Many good opportunities within the company. Excellent people to work with. Unfortunate budget restrictions. While I was with Fortis I had many challenging roles and I found it to be a very pleasant experience.

I answered the phone all day and helped people set up accounts and answer their questions. That part of the job was good but it was not a good place for someone with a family. There is no tolerance for missed days

Operational support specialist in HR, Safety and Training

The best part of working with Fortis was my interaction with my field and operations team. I supported them with all the safety, compliance and regulated training programs along with daily HR coach/counsel for industrial relations and performance management. The down to earth tradesmen of this gas and electric utility industry made my day real, original and helped keep me grounded in the core business. I thrived on the ability to make a positive difference as I supported my leadership team at Fortis.

Pros

Changing environment with lots of opportunities for creative and autonomous work.

Cons

As the company grew, it sometimes became difficult to stay connected with all the leadership regularly.
