About us
Wholly owned by Fort McKay First Nation, the Fort McKay Group of Companies (FMGOC) is one of the largest Indigenous-owned companies in Canada. As an industry leader in the oil sands, we offer:
• Strategic Services
• Logistics
• Mechanical and Heat Treatment Services
• Joint Ventures
FMGOC began in Alberta in 1986 with six employees and a single janitorial contract. Since then, we have grown into a company with close to 2,000 employees representing over 65 First Nations across Canada. To date, we have offices located in Fort McKay (Industrial Park), Fort McMurray, Edmonton, and Bonnyville.
Sustainability
Fort McKay First Nation consists of approximately 800 Dene, Cree and Métis community members. First Nation roots run deep in Fort McKay, stretching back to 1820 and coinciding with the placement of the Hudson Bay Company trading post in the area. The Nation is managed by an elected Chief, Council and Senior Administrative body led by the Band’s CEO.
Established in 1986, the FMGOC is wholly owned and operated by the Fort McKay First Nation. The Nation has always worked to ensure it has the financial independence to make its own decisions, as well as provide for itself and its members.
We support Fort McKay First Nation FMFN and the local community of Wood Buffalo Region by supporting local initiatives and playing an active role in the community. We provide economic opportunities for FMFN through our contributions to develop the community in areas of health and wellness.
Community contributions and sponsorships include:
• Contribution to the development of the new education centre in Fort McKay
• Support and annual sponsorship of Fort McKay First Nation Treaty Day
• Supporting local community events (example: Easter egg hunts) by providing supplies and materials
• Sponsoring Northern Lights Health Foundation events
• Supporting and sponsoring local community children and youth programs and sports teams
• Donations through FMGOC owned businesses such as BME LP’s contributions to support the local HERO Foundation
• Contributions to the Fort Edmonton Park Foundation in support of their renovation
Our Culture
Our purpose is to preserve and propel the Fort McKay First Nation and better the lives of Indigenous peoples.
Thanks to a strong leadership team, FMGOC continues to channel its profits into the community to support housing, infrastructure, health, recreation, and community programs.
