HR Coordinator in Toronto, ON
on 25 February 2019
Good company
Going through an acquisition was fairly difficult, as expected, communication to employees did not coming quickly enough though. Open communication all round needs to be worked on - from management and HR. The people are what made my experience pretty awesome. Making the effort to integrate with other departments is well worth it. Typical days were busy within the HR department with a fair bit of upheaval due to a whole new team coming in mid-2017, but we (HR) worked closely to build a better employee experience and put in place processes to aid recruitment, changes benefits and salary fairness. It would be great for the Company to get behind some of the social initiatives suggested, and see these as both short & long term employee retention strategies. Small morale boosters go a long way. It isn't all one sided, I do believe that the employees need to facilitate change with a little ownership too. The physical office space needs work, as currently it's not very inviting and is dated. Unfortunately, there is push back on this important element. Cambridge is supposed to be a fintech start up, and the space needs to reflect that. Not only for clients but also for the all important employees who are there 9 hours a day. There are some really amazing people that work at Cambridge and you can really create your own little family. Overall Cambridge is a good place to work and is heading in the right direction.

Hellish Experience
This company is only focussed on profits and not people. The senior staff are rude to the juniors. The president of the global payments division is smug and not a good person to work for. Middle managers are powerless in terms of standing up for their employees. Their so called "team selling" approach does not accurately track who actually brings in new business because too many people are paid to touch the accounts without generating value. It's too bad, because if you love FX, this place is disappointing.

Better Options - Toronto
If you are interested in: Cross collaboration and team work Working at a high standard you can be proud of Contributing your time in a positive workplace- free from inappropriate racist comments, bullying, aggression, harassment, and misogyny Raising others up instead of tearing them down Industry standard compensation Constant learning and development All things tech and keeping up with rapid tech changes Having autonomy to make decisions Growth, career advancement and promotion opportunities Having a realistic workload and goal to strive beyond Work life balance Well being and mental health Then this is not the place for you. Cambridge is counter to everything above, if you are seeking any of the listed in an employer, run far and run fast.

Great, fun, stable work environment and people
Cambridge Global Payments is the perfect place to start your work life. The people are wonderful and help with anything you need, they are friendly and it feels like a family. The work is good for experience, and there is room from growth and continued opportunities.

Lots of cold call
It's a very intense work environment, cold call and rude management. However, I learned to stay positive and work hard to get the most of out it. The result was great with great bonus payout.
