Definitely the worst company I have ever worked for. Promises never fulfilled, Dog eat Dog management, unrealistic expectations and lots of in-house fighting. Kamloops First Transit is run by an overbearing highly unliked woman who is basically a puppet for the regional manager. When it comes right down to it she has no cahonas and will stab you in the back first chance she gets. The upper management responsible for this location are people you would never hang with in the real world. The Regional Maintenance Manager is a joke. Can't contact him unless you're in "his group". Way too concerned about his own life than what's best for the company. The shop is totally manipulated by one of the more senior mechanics. A person not to be trusted. Do not work for this screwed up company.

I can't really say anything good about this company there are too many problems, its just not worth risking employment. The payroll Dept rips you off, the union is non existent and only represents friends and family. Co workers are rude and think there special. Transit supervisors are just a bunch of bullies, and probably failed as drivers. A general conclusion most are just dummies

Simple straight forward job, Pay is really good. Union seems too busy fighting for poweramungst eachother to do anything and treated like trash from managment and coworkers. There doesn't appear to be a single happy employee there. not worth the higher pay.

Management was very disorganized. After a full week of full time training and without a break was put onto a full time position, not even a days break. Was not ready for a full week. Days are long as the shifts are all split. Like many others before me I was set up to fail.

The company says safety is top priority, however they do not have their equipment fixed / maintained regularly and permanently leave defective items that are not critical items, for repair. Their HR Manual is employee onus responsibility driven and several protocols are unrealistic. It is no surprise this company is for sale as they have missed the concept of how businesses can grow and thrive.

Great group of people - impossible to get good hours per week or good shifts with the way their seniority system works.

That being said, the job itself is really fun, and the days go by very fast. Would have stayed if not for the lack hours and horrible shifts (also you don't know what time your shift starts/ends or shift duration until the day before, for EVERY shift. So, work/life balance is horrible).

As a handyDart operator I engage with a variety of people with a variety of reasons for having to use handyDart service.
I have never had a bad day at work since joining handyDart First Transit. 99% of passengers are grateful for the service we provide and almost every ride you are made aware of that appreciation.

Safety is the most important aspect of our workplace and no bus goes out unless the operator is confident it is safe to do the job.

Even if you have had an incident management does not make you feel like less of a person but rather reinforces your positive skills and attributes and encourages you to do better.

This job is all about the attitude you bring to it day to day. Be honest and genuine and people will be grateful for the service you provide. In turn you will be happy at the end of the day because you have made a difference in a positive way for others that would not have been able to do what you did for them.
Pros
Good pay, regular hours, No overtime, guaranteed days off.
Cons
Takes a long time a get to a Full Time position.

Safety was the number one concern and everyone lived and breathed it. Had a great mentor in the training department. Learned you could change scheduling if you got everyone together and come up with a solution and make a year committment to try it. Co-workers were helpful. Most enjoyable part of the job was watching new trainees succeed in the transit operator program.
Pros
Working afternoons or mornings, Working longers hours to have more days off to have a Great Family/life balance.
Cons
Lossing the Transit Contract with York Region.
