What is growth
Customer Service Representative (Current Employee) - Kamloops, BC - 16 May 2023
Indeed featured review
The most useful review selected by IndeedGreat place to work but growing within the company is basically a fever dream. With any open jobs that you think might suit you, no matter how much you apply, they already have somebody in mind even before the job is listed.

Used to be fun and a positive place to work
Journeyperson (Former Employee) - Finning Canada - 30 April 2023
Worked at Finning for almost 25 years but lost respect for how employees were treated over the years. Became a number not a name and micro managing and removing the skill of trades people . Had a great run but became a toxic environment . Thought I’d retire there but chose work life balance over cash and seniority .

D50 warehouse is a mess
Warehouse Person (Current Employee) - Edmonton, AB - 21 April 2023
Never in my life has working for a company been so difficult you hear it everyday. You call out sick and use your sick time? Unexcused absences that they’ll put you on their attendance program even if you had doctors notes for the time off. Accidents happen everyday and most supervisors will just shrug it off and let you go back to exactly what you’re doing. No time outs for those who cause accidents on machines because then productivity takes a hit. Budget cuts make it so only a portion of the racking in the building has mesh but they rant and rave about how they’re so safety oriented and they can’t even invest in making sure stuff isn’t going to fall from the sky by accident. Contractors are left to do whatever they please and leave messes that the actual workers have to clean up after. Supervisors spend a lot of time at their computers and don’t actually supervise or properly staff busy areas. If you work at d50 you’re the lowest paid warehouse worker in the finning network despite being the largest and busiest warehouse. This isn’t even mentioning the “temps” who have no union pay increase schedule. If you live alone expect to work a lot of overtime to cover bills. No accountability between shifts each shift does their work in a different way causing resentment between workers. Proper equipment is few and far between and good luck having it in good shape. So many people work so hard and are treated sub human which cause a myriad of mental health issues in the warehouse to the point oh&s was called on them.
Pros
Benefits but barely
Cons
So many

Could be better
Manager (Current Employee) - Edmonton, AB - 5 April 2023
Culture and management could be better. Most people only care about climbing the ladder, not doing the right thing. Many great people left. No recognition, employees are definitely not their priority.

Wrong management in place.
Sales / Person who had to make everything happen (Former Employee) - Edmonton, AB - 27 March 2023
The president of the company should stay. The rest of the executive team should be let go, bringing in the opportunity to change the culture. Service quotes are awful because they're based on history of poor quoting, customer facing people have to carry the weight of the entire company that's filled full of bad decision makers.
Pros
All management looking for the next step up the ladder, So they don't really care, about the people under them.
Cons
Long hours

Good team environment, too many meetings and too many managers. Lots of road blocks within the company , interdepartmental battles on a daily basis.

Good place in general. Lots of accountability issues
Sales Representative (Current Employee) - Edmonton, AB - 11 March 2023
Good place overall. Managers care about their group. The pay is consistently becoming less and less attractive as they dont want to compensate for ones true worth or value.

It’s Alright, Alright, Alright.
Heavy Equipment Technician (Current Employee) - Fort McMurray, AB - 14 February 2023
The world is your oyster if you get past the infrequent layoffs. Get enough seniority and your set for life. Good pay, good coworkers, good training. Also it never hurts to have a few years of Finning on your resume.

Jobs at Finning
Blind leading the blind
Manager (Current Employee) - Alberta - 31 January 2023
Executive team that is unable to understand the front line operation. Squandering money on a large customer who doesn’t pay. Wouldn’t invest my cash here with the enormous risk of bad business practices.

Nice people
Intern (Former Employee) - British Columbia - 21 January 2023
Finning is a diverse company with great people. Despite being 90yrs old company, it is still growing. The company needs to invest on process effeiciency, because there are lot of things can be done quickly but takes a lot of time because of poor design of system and communication.

Uhhggg I'm Lagging
Mechanic (Former Employee) - Edmonton, AB - 4 January 2023
That is what this job turns my brain into. It do the brain soup. The management is so slow to react to the correct issues it feels like a ping spike from a lag switching teen in 2007. The supervisors may as well be Storm Troopers cause they can't hit a single positive trait between any of them. Best to stay squeaky clean so you will have no choice but to avoid this greaseball of a gong show.
Pros
Not bad benefits, Not bad pizza bribery either
Cons
Yes

Inside Sales Representative (Current Employee) - Grande Prairie, AB - 17 November 2022
Good company to work for but so big that processes are complicated. People typically have a long tenure( more than 10 years). Pay is above average and job aids are vast.

Not what Finning used to be… The days of family and culture have been removed for political gain and profit margin
Manager (Former Employee) - Prince George, BC - 31 October 2022
Many great people across the business, but Finning has changed in a big way. The days of family, culture and safety are now overshadowed by political gain within the ranks. Give 110% and show investment in the company as an employee and get shut down by political ploys from surrounding team members. It’s sad to say, but Finning is not what it used to be and not where it sat with many people as the pinnacle of a career. It now sits at the bottom. Hence the mass exodus taking place over the last year.
