Experience varies a lot across organization

If you work for a support function, such as Finance, IT, etc, you can expect to have much heavier workload than your peers in programs. Support function employees are not respected. While programs, particularly GMF, expands with additional funding, programs employees enjoy much better career growth since support functions are seen as overhead and there are almost no opportunities for growth unless somebody leaves a job and they don't hire an outsider. The organization talks about equity day in and day out, however there is not much equity of employment and opportunities to say the least across departments.Salary increases are below the market and the inflation rate. Salary bands remained the same in the last 3 years. There has been exponential growth in headcount while FCM gave the same raises before the pandemic and didn't adjust wages according to the inflationary environment.GMF is the best department to work in now as there are plenty of opportunities of growth and movement.

Senior leadership is outstanding. Inclusion, diversity and equity are taken seriously; they walk the talk.Very dynamic culture, lots of young people creating wonderful programs.Compensation is very good. RRSP matching plus summer hours = four day weeks and short days.

Bonne organisation gouvernementale, offrant de bons salaires et avantages sociaux, très respectueux de l'équilibre entre vie privée et professionnelle.Il faut savoir faire preuve de diplomatie, s'adapter à une multitude d'objectifs contradictoires et ne pas avoir d'ambition trop élevée pour travailler sereinement à la FCM.

Cons

Équipes travaillent en silos, confusion sur les objectifs, responsabilités limitées, hiérarchie

J'étais déjà intéressée à travailler avec les municipalités du Canada et de l'Amérique latine en mettant sur pied des partenariats inter municipaux en vue d'échanges techniques visant des résultats concrets et durables dans un cadre institutionnel et en recrutant tant des conseils municipaux que des fonctionnaires bénévoles tant au Canada que dans des pays d'Amérique latine. Le cadre de travail était très bien organisé et agréable en général, tenant compte de l'équilibre entre la vie personnelle et le travail.À travers le Programme de Partenariat au niveau international la FCM a pu systématiser l'expérience technique au niveau municipal et la diffuser dans un contexte de développement international.

Fun place to work

Work and Life Balance, Wonderful environment, downtown location and easy to access of all kind of transportation. Lots of staff activities, gathering. Summer Fridays off and December closing.
